Full Project Description:
Online project in which students create and submit their own virtual ocean journeys while comparing the navigational techniques of the early explorers to those of modern day. Moderated on-line discussion led by the great 15th C. explorers Magellan, Cabot, etc. Experts from world of oceanography and sailing available for Q&A. Activities for the classroom and for online interaction. Student work published on Web.
Objectives:
To integrate earth science and history in an online teaching forum; to introduce ocean topics such as navigation, weather, etc to an elementary/middle school audience; to provide students with access to ocean experts via the Internet.
