Description of Our Community: A community is united for the people to feel affection for. With such affection assembled, the community could be reorganized and reconstructed. In Pingtung, Taiwan, there is a triennial ceremony "The Harmony Ritual," which functions well in this way . Although it lasts eight days and costs millions of dollars, yet it recruits millions of people and holds tight the hearts of the community fellows. From the county government, cultural scholars to the common people and from the ship building, the procession to the final burning phase, every member of the community works collaboratively to complete it. Therefore, we define "our community" to be those people who unite to accomplish the ceremony. ยก@

Project Description: We hope to share with the world through 2000 CyberFair the spectacular folk ceremony--The Harmony Ritual. We combined our all-out efforts with the help of our teachers, parents and community fellows, especially Mr. Wen-cheng Lin, the executive of the ceremony, The latter offered materials, and granted interviews, while the former turned out to be detailed interpretation, accompanied by plenty of pictures. We intended to features every phase of the ceremony, including the visit-forbidden rites. Besides, we designed some pre- and post- reading activities. We hope our web pages not only attain the goal of sharing but also serves instructional functions. Finally, we hope the conclusion of this competition is another beginning of a new stage, so we design a page to update the latest information on the coming ceremony, held from Oct. 15, 2000 to Oct. 22. In the course of production, there are challenges, worries, admiration, and more of gratitudes. We feel greatly honored to share our records and research with friends in the global village.
