Description of Our Community: Kolkata, a city teeming with more than 40 million people emanating exuberance, cultural values and rich traditions, occupies an eminent position in the state of West Bengal. Rightfully dubbed the City of Joy, it boasts of lavish festivities, mouth-watering delicacies and its extraordinary ability to embrace everyone who ventures into its vivacious grounds. Yet it is not only the soulful embodiment of heritage and intellectual activities but also a treasure trove of love and hospitality. The city hides in its bosom uncharted gems with a sheen of courage, benevolence and compassion. These diamonds incessantly redefine the widely accepted notion of actors being termed ‘heroes’ to the word’s true essence. Inspired by the humanitarian personalities like Mother Teresa that called Kolkata home, these unsung heroes try, with all their heart, to help, in any way, the ones who need it. In a developing city of a third-world country, where not everyone is privileged enough to eat all three meals in a day, fortunate enough to have a roof over their heads, blessed enough to have a loving, caring family, these guardian angels devote their time to kindle a spark of happiness in their otherwise despondent life. In Mother Teresa’s words, “You can find Calcutta anywhere in the world. You only need two eyes to see. Everywhere in the world there are people that are not loved, that are not wanted nor desired, people that no one will help, people that are pushed away and forgotten.”

Project Description: The dictionary describes a hero as a person who is admired and looked up to because they have done something that is appreciated by the masses. They have undoubtedly done things which have brought about some kind of change or the other. But, there are people who remain unknown to the society despite their actions which have made a difference in the society. They aren’t celebrities who you would see under the spotlight. But they give off themselves for the greater good. Their lives inspire people. And yet, we forget to acknowledge their sacrifice. They receive no parades or holidays. They largely go unnoticed, and this is unfortunate. Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Kolkata plans to focus on these unsung heroes by virtue of the project “Valor to Venture”. This project involves active participation of students from classes 3 to 12. The school has helped raise awareness regarding this by inviting such heroes of the society to our school’s event, inspiring the students to initiate change by working for this project and interviewing such leaders and alumni who are also taking up these kind of projects. We are working upon leaders who work for the betterment of the human race and work in favour of the environment. The inputs to our project have been provided by the students of class 6-12 who have interviewed the heroes of their locality. The community leaders who attended our school events as chief guests were also interviewed and their inputs have also been presented in our project. Classes 3-5 have showcased assembly programs related to this topic in our school assembly hall. The guiding force for taking up this idea for the project was to work upon and get to know about these leaders and their ways to work. By getting to know the above details, the younger generation would get highly influenced because heroes are loved and looked upto by one and all. Their noble works and work for social and environmental cause would inspire the young ones and also motivate them to volunteer and perform similar activities which would make the world a better place to live in. This project is a tribute to all the unsung heroes and leaders who have done a splendid job for the society.
