Description of Our Community: The project’s main figure – Meidu Qiu was born to Yongjing Loyal House family. She has been probing into Changhua ‘s literature and history for years and is a famous village history author. She has recently felt hopeless and pensive for losing Changhua Raoping Hakka for half century. In view of her own roots searching and spreading, she resolutely take on the responsibility to relive Changhua Raoping Hakka. Since 2009, she zealously participated in Hakka workshops, and through self-learning and web resources usage, she, from the ground up, passed High intermediate Hakka Certification with high scores in nine months and became the only Raoping accent Master in Hakka Affair Council in Changhua. Afterwards, she taught in native language courses using both Taiwanese and Hakka. She also actively opened up Raoping Hakka Student Club, Parents and Children Learning Club, and went on Community Lecture tour. Moreover, she went to Guangdong, where Raoping Hakka was originated from, for an ethnography. She constantly cooperated and allied with Taoyuan, Hsinchu and Miaoli’s Raoping Hakka Group to compile nine sets of Raoping Hakka teaching materials and record videos. Under her guidance, many pairs of parents and children got good grades in different contests. The outcome made it apparent that the language reliving is a success. Her title as “Changhua Raoping Hakka legendary figure” is no overstatement. Being widely praised, she and her story were widely reported. Hakka Master Meidu Qiu twisted the fate of Changhua Raoping Hakka. With the expertise attractiveness, she roused the almost forgotten Changhua Raoping Hakka , and deserved to be crowned as “the reliving hero of Changhua Raoping!”Hero Qiu turned the tide.

Project Description: Through an interview with the project’s main figure – Meidu Qiu, the research sets out with an exploration of her growing-up stories, dives deeply into her solid literature and history background, and grasps the reasons behind her accepting the mission to relive Changhua Raoping Hakka that had been lost for half century. The project researchers formed Changhua Raoping Hakka Junior Corps. They participated personally in her mother-tongue reliving courses, performed their learning achievements in school and in the community, and also recorded the performances to promote it via Internet, letting more people know that after almost a hundred year of disappearance, Changhua Raoping Hakka is now making its comeback, as if she was creating an oasis in the desert. During the research process, most of the Junior Corps members realized that they are also the members of Raoping who don’t speak their mother tongue. They also realized how much they had lost in acquiring their mother tongue while they were busy pursuing the convenience of life. Fortunate enough, however, there is someone who would stand up and take on the responsibility to restore the language. Through the action research, Chan-Rao-Ka Junior Corps hopes to evoke everyone’s attention toward local language and culture.
