Description of Our Community: Chinese uses pottery and porcelain as utensils in daily life can be traced back to early days. The art of pottery and porcelain has continuously attracted people from all over the world. Once Jingdezhen, now named Changnanzhen in Mainland China, was the most famous town for manufacturing pottery and porcelain. That’s why the name of China has been used as the name of porcelain. It also shows the importance of the porcelain in Chinese people’s life. The technique of producing pottery and porcelain had been brought by Chinese emigrants to Taiwan during the past three hundred years. Guazikeng, Beitou, with abundant clay, became an important place for manufacturing pottery. At the time of Japanese colonization, ??and???? from Kyoto established pottery factory in 1896. Soon there was another one called Beitou Pottery Place built in 1907 by ?????? which produces utensils for flowers and tea. Beitou Pottery was not only famous for its elegant style but also a leading character for the development of pottery in Taiwan. After Republic of China has taken over Taiwan, Chinese Art Pottery Corporation and other relevant companies once had been established one after another. However, pottery industry are facing a decline because the running out of clay. Gradually the name of Beitou Pottery Town has been forgotten by people. Fortunately, the rise of economic growth let people in Taiwan pay more attention to art decoration, and thus, some artists, such as Wong Guo-Zhen and Zheng De-Yong, come back to Beitou to build their own workrooms. Beitou, once again, has possibility to regain its place in pottery industry.

Project Description: Beitou is one of the 12 districts in Taipei City. There are Beitou Hot Spring Museum, Beitou Museum, Ketagalam Culture Center, Taipei Public Library Beitou, Hong-Gah Museum,Chue Feng Buddhist Art& Culture Foundation..etc. The gathering of art institution let artists see Beitou as a great place to start their business. Linong Elementary School as a member of the local community, we are going to design a website and “Blissful Beitou Pottery” will be our topic of the research. The down turn of the Beitou Pottery industry was a strike to local economic growth as well as to cultural industry. We are going to try our best to promote Beitou Pottery industry in order to revive the local culture. Firstly, we are going to do data collection. Students will have chance to do pottery D.I.Y., tea room decoration. Through the interview with the local pottery artists, students are able to know more about local culture. We expect that the above activities will help enhance students’ art connotation. It is very important to learn to have the sense of art in childhood. Hopefully, the website “Blissful Beitou Pottery”is able to revive Beitou pottery industry. Beitou one day can be as famous as Yingge in Taipei County and as Jingde Town in Mainland China.
