Description of Our Community: Hsichou Township is located in the extreme south of Changhua County and just situated in the floating and overlying place of Siluo River in the east of Zhuoshui River mainstream. It is originally named as “Xizhou” as it is the sandbar of stream. Later, it is renamed as “Hsichou”. In 2011, government planned to set Phase 4 of Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP-4) in the Erlin, and it was originally scheduled to carry out river closure from Tzutsaipi Ditch, but the heated dabate on the allocation problem of water resources was triggered due to farmers' resistance. In the end, government accepted the good advice to transform CTSP-4 into precision machinery park and cancel the water diversion project. Farmers in Hsichou established Hsichou Shangshui Water Farmer Co. Ltd and actively promote non-toxic and friendly farming methods so as to retrieve the dignity of agriculture and the hope of sustainable agriculture. So far, Shangshui Rice, Local Food Materials, Agricultural Bookstore, Paddy Wetland and other projects have become the representatives for the successful transformation of non-toxic agriculture in Hsichou.
Project Description: This research took Hsichou Shangshui Water Farmer Co. Ltd as the subjects to understand the origin and spirit of this team and deeply understand the 4 projects promoted by the company at present. In this way, people can have a better understanding of the development of sustainable agriculture in Hsichou Township, and it is expected that people can have a deeper understanding of Taiwanese agriculture and realize the importance of Taiwanese agriculture with the leading of this research. The objectives for this research are as follows: A.To understand the idea of company’s set-up, development process and management conditions. B.To understand the reason that Cheng Gong Hotel is used as Agricultural Bookstore and to introduce the diverse activities held by bookstore. C.To introduce the impetus process of ecological restoration project for Hsichou Shangshui Rice ~ Paddy Wetland as well as the idea course of farmers’ participation. D.To introduce the Happy Pear~Pear Paradise in Hsichou and to explore the friendly agricultural idea and warm human relationship behind the Happy Pear. E.To understand the project that the local food materials are adopted for lunch in the kindergarten promoted by Hsichou Township Office and to explore the issue of safe food materials for nutritional lunch.
