Description of Our Community: Both our school, Yong-Chun Primary School, and Taipei Railway Workshop locate in Xinyi District, Taipei City. Taipei Railway Workshop nears to one of the major street inside Taipei City, Civic Blvd. Expressway, and is close to the big shopping center, Living Mall, and Songshan Tobacco Plant. This district was originally a part of Songshan District. In the 1980s, the population of Songshan District has reached up to 450,000, and the district was too big to be managed, so the Songnan area was planned to become a new independent district in the Taipei District Re-planning Meeting on March 12, 1990. This district combined the southern areas of the North-South Railway in the original Songshan District and the northern areas of Section 3, Heping East Road in Da'an District. It was named after the Xinyi Plan Area inside the district. Living Mall is sponsored by Core Pacific Group. Its appearance takes the shape of a sphere, and hence it is known as the largest spherical shopping mall in the world. Songshan Tobacco Plant is now Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. It was built in 1937, and was the Songshan Tobacco Plant of the Monopoly of the Government-General of Taiwan during the Japanese Occupation Period.
Project Description: When Taipei is mentioned, what comes to mind? Night markets? Taipei 101? Have you ever thought of Taipei Railway Workshop? Let me tell you a little something about it: It has nothing to do with airplanes. Taipei Railway Workshop is a national historic site, and it used to be the base of maintaining and remodeling major vehicles. They do not repair railway engines here anymore, but it remains a place for people to visit. What difficulties forced them to stop using it? Were there other reasons for doing so? Is there any chance for it to come back in the future? Follow us, and we will lead you to march forward with it. Our team was formed because of Taipei Railway Workshop. We want to do a research on it to bring it back so as for it to march forward to the future, so that when tourists come to Taiwan, the first landmark they will want to visit is Taipei Railway Workshop. We want people to have Taipei Railway Workshop in their mind when they think about Taipei; we want it to become its most famous landsite. No matter how difficult it is or what obstructions we must face, our team will find a way to break through them.
