Description of Our Community: Hong Kong is an international city, undergoing urbanization. With hundreds of skyscrapers in its city hub and plenty more surrounding it, Hong Kong can easily be called a modern city. But there are many parts of Hong Kong that differentiates it from other cities and one of the things that makes Hong Kong so unique are the street-side cooked-food stalls. These stalls, as their name implies, are located at the side of the streets, and sells street food, but are located only in developing parts of Hong Kong, such as Mong Kok. This makes the area special, because the place is not developed enough for large corporations to step foot in it which also makes the price of the street foods cheap as they aren’t really affected by the economic tides brought in by the corporations, which is quite extraordinary as Hong Kong is more of a business oriented area. But what makes it so unique isn’t mainly because of the economic differences, but actually by the food themselves. The street-side cooked-food stalls don’t really sell normal food like rice, spaghetti or sandwiches. They sell local snacks such as fish balls, shumai, octopus legs, fried eggplants, stinky tofu and even pig intestines. The food sold is mostly deep-fried, making them so delicious and popular, especially during winter. They are served mostly in Styrofoam cups or skewers, so that people can walk around the old streets while enjoying the delicacies served to them. The unique type of food sold by the stalls makes them particularly special. Street-side cooked-food stalls are considered a cultural part of Hong Kong, as most Hong Kong people, no matter rich or poor, would come from all around Hong Kong just to enjoy the atmosphere of eating delicious treats while roaming around the old streets, which makes it a very unique and mentionable part of Hong Kong.

Project Description: The range of topics street-side cooked-food stalls could cover is countless, and therefore we chose to focus on the food portion of the topic. As mentioned above, street-side cooked-food stalls have countless amounts of delicious treats to offer, and we would like people to know as much about the variety of foods sold, so we are going to make a webpage which mainly focuses on the popular types of snacks sold. The website is going to include several items, the first being the introductory page, which includes what the website has to offer and also the importance of the stalls to the locals. The second page would be the introduction of the snacks sold by the stalls, which will include a short summary for each of the snacks, and also some photos for reference. The third page would be some videos we taped of non-locals and our own reactions after eating the snacks. The page will also include rankings and comments of the food for you to further understand how it actually tastes like. Following this page would be the “Special Recommendations” page, which talks about some of the food tasted from the previous page, especially the ones with drastic differences in comments, thus making them “special”. We will describe why some people dislike those snacks so much and the rest love them. That concludes the contents of the project as the final two pages are the sitemap and the about us page. The sitemap maps out our entire website so that users can find see how many pages the website has to offer and easily find out what the user has missed. The very final page has some information about us, the web designers, so that users can have more of an understanding of why we chose this topic out of several others, and feel more personal while browsing through the pages.
