Description of Our Community: Tunghai Garden is the historical memory of a world-class Taiwanese writer Mr. Yang Kui two decades of life. Tunghai Garden is located in Taichung Xitun District, on Tatu Mountains slope, across from Tunghai University where overlooks beautiful Taichung City and hazy central range. In 1962, after 12 years of imprisonment by the national government, Mr. Yang Kui borrowed $ 50,000 and operated "Tunghai Garden" in Taichung suburb Tatu Mountains hills. Until 1985, he died of illness. Tunghai Garden became the intermediary of communication betweenTaiwan's new generation of post-war and Yang Kui. Therefore, Tunghai Garden represents a considerable space of history and culture for arts community. However, in 2009, after being planned as a funeral site, Tunghai Garden no longer looks like the early years. Weeds, as high as people, had drowned the garden, the house Mr. Yang Kui built by his own had been destroyed. The only thing survived are Yang Kui couples tomb, and Mr. Yang Kui mosaic ideal beside the tomb-- the declaration of peace.

Project Description: Taiwan New Literature originator, Yang Kui (Yang Gui, 1905-1985), in 1934, won the Second Prize (first prize was exile) of Tokyo "literature review" with (Japanese original title ), which made him the status of a world-class writer. Yang Kui's life time spanned two generations include the Japanese colonial era and the National government. Also, he got triple identity: the anti-Japanese movement campaigner, the New Culture Movement campaigner and a writer with an international status. In literary terms, he was the first Taiwan writer to enter the Japanese central. From 1970s, his works was repeatedly elected to the high school textbooks, and is still an important "textbook writer" now. His literary achievements are highly valued. The national academic institutions published "The Complete Works of Yang Kui" all fourteen books. National Museum of Taiwanese Literature planned Yang Kui-themed exhibitions. However, Yang Kui's Tunghai Garden will be soon disappeared! Therefore, we will follow the footsteps of Yang Kui in Taichung, build web pages and cooperate with cultural community, offspring of Yang Kui, schools and social medias to strive with plans to Taichung City government. We hope that Tunghai Garden can be established into "Yang Kui literary landscape garden" in 2015, the 30th anniversary of the death of Mr. Yang Kui. In addition, we will also introduce surrounding tourist attractions and delicious food on our web page, so that everyone can have more fun while understanding Yang Kui.
