Description of Our Community: Our local community is located in the heart of the town of Riverhead. We a small parochial school affiliated with the larger Diocese of Rockville center. The students come from various communities around Riverhead. Riverhead is 90 minutes away from the large city of New York. Our community is rural and small surrounded by water. the ocean is on the south and the Long Island Sound is on the north. Our community is considered rural and we are surrounded by agricultural farms. Riverhead is home to a large group of Eastern European immigrants. Recent immigrants have grown to include people from Central American countries who are new to our area.
Project Description: Students will researchand analyze the overpopulation of white tail deere in their local environmeent. They will research the problems caused by overpopulation, to humans and to the environment. they will evaluate the solutions being used by local leaders and brainstorm their own.
