Description of Our Community: Our hometown Fusing Township, is located at Siyu of Changhua County, being a typically coastal flat terrain that is long in the east-west direction and narrow in the north-south direction. Since it is close to Tainan and Lukang Township, the daily living services of Fusing Township and business exchange are basically provided by the urban areas of Lukang Township. Fubao Village, the most westerly seaside village in the township, has become a wasteland because of the serious salinization of farmland due to the seawater intrusion caused by the land subsidence. Ten years ago, the Fubao Wetland Ecological Park Plan was initiated driven by the conservation community and the local people, intending to develop the bird conservation into an in-depth regional tourism in combination with the local agriculture industry, animal husbandry and dairy farming. With the existing bird watching cabins and platforms, rich waterfowl ecology and frequent and spectacular swarming scene of water birds, Fubao Wetland is a place of waterfowl observation frequented by the bird-watching enthusiasts in the central region.
Project Description: There is a large piece of long fallowed fields at the coast of Fusing Township, Changhua County developed into a rest stop for the migratory birds over time. In order to provide more protection for the birds, Sheng-chieh Nien and the team rented this large land by raising several millions of fund (rent for 10 years) and built the bird-watching platforms so that the birdwatchers could enjoy the birds without interfering with the birds. Now this place has become a haven for the migratory birds - Fubao Wetland. Many migratory birds stay at Fubao Wetland for the winter with the himantopus tops the number. It has become the best bird-watching place for the bird lovers. Moved by the birdlife conservation deeds conducted by Sheng-chieh Nien and others, the teachers and students of Rixin Elementary School hope that more people can contribute together to protect this piece of land, providing a safe habitat for the migratory birds. The school leads the teachers and students of the school to have a common understanding of Fubao Wetland through the conservation curriculum. Also, through delivering the subject speeches, organizing the environment conservation oriented walking activities in communities, organizing movie watching (Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above) and interviewing relevant conservationists , the school hopes people can learn more about Fubao Wetland and more environmentalists are motivated to jointly conserve our Fubao Wetland. It is hoped that the 10-year period of renting this land is just a start and the lovely ecological babies could stay at the poetic wetland for ever with out wills and blessings and let the love continue.
