Description of Our Community: When people hear the name Yu-Wen Tseng, they would immediately think of the folk art artist who lives in Guandu. Mr. Tseng rose to fame through his watercolor paintings of egrets, then gradually went on to depict images of Taiwan. With his artisic sensibility, Mr. Tseng has successfully blended Taiwan’s natural scenery and traditional culture into his work. His modern approach to the tradition and to the mother nature is what motivated our research. Mr. Tseng is no mere a graphic artist; in recent years he has immersed himself into the realm of kinetic sculpture. He explores the world through antiques, through nature, and through countless experiments. He inspires us to see, to feel, and to try art creations from different perspectives. Mr. Tseng has ignited our passion towards art; and it is our turn to embrace the joy and wonder that art provides.

Project Description: Mr. Tseng’s childhood was spent in Taiwan’s oldest city--Tainan. The colorful temples, narrow alleys coupled with the folk customs are what make Tainan the unique city it is. Even today, those who seek to explore Taiwan’s traditional culture find Tainan to be their best choice. Artists work hard to merge tradition and innovation, which will undoubtedly become one of Taiwan’s most treasured assets. Guandu is situated in Taipei City’s northwest at the junction of Keelung River and Tamsui River. It is a quiet escape for city dwellers. The Guandu Nature Park is a major stopover site for migrating birds and the Chin-Shan Trail around Guandu is a paradise for nature lovers. The Taipei National University of the Arts is also located in Guandu and has been the alma mater of countless artists. Moreover, Guandu is the place where Mr. Tseng, a resident there for thirty years, has created most of his artworks. Guandu has a kind of magic power to inspire people to make the world better.
