Description of Our Community: Xizhou Township is located in the southernmost area of Changhua County, and between East Luo River and West Luo River. It was named Xizhou because it is the sandbar of a river. Xizhou Township, on the low-lying alluvial fan of Jhuoshuei River, is the third largest town in Changhua County. From its south, across Jhuoshuei River, is Yunlin County. In the early stage, Xizhou Sugar Factory used to be an important sugar refinery in Taiwan. During the Japanese occupancy, Cizi Canal, the first official Taiwanese canal and the second largest irrigation system of Changhua County, was manually dug to obtain water from Jhuoshuei River and to irrigate the entire southwest region of Changhua. Because of the fertile black soil on the riverbank of Jhuoshuei River, a variety of crops are produced, including the widely famous Jhuoshuei rice, Pearl guavas, and Malabar chestnuts. With rich soil and water, the people of Xizhou Township work hard to produce plenty of high-quality agricultural products.

Project Description: The acreage, yield and quality of Xizhou Township pearl guavas are not only the most and the highest in Taiwan, but also the most representative crops. Many students’ families in our school grow guavas as a job. Pearl Guavas are as precious as pearls. They are the glory of Xizhou township and also the main survial of the family assets. However, the farmers growing pearl guavas don’t live happily; they even feel sad because the prices of guavas always soar and plummet. "Guavas’ prices collapse, farmers lose everything." The low price of guavas lead them to become abandoned crops. This phenomenon inspired us to explore further guava production and marketing problems. We will briefly introduce the topic of Xizhou rural customs and explore in depth the following topics: 1.Guava Family: This unit focuses on differences of the various species of guavas 2.
