Description of Our Community: Mr. Apex Pang-Soong Lin was born in 1957 in a small town called Tungkang in Pingtung county, Taiwan. Mr. Lin’s father was one of the most important photographers in Taiwan, he was very open minded and he paid much attention in educating his own children. Lin’s father was fond of listening to classical music at home, the melodious music was quite unusual in such a fishing village at the time. It often attracted people around to stop by and listen, friends and family gathered together to chat about arts. Mr. Lin’s second older brother, Wan-Yen Lin, he even founded an art club called “??????”. Growing up in an environment which was surrounded by different types of art works and activities, such as temple fairs, it opened up Mr. Lin’s view and he started designing. After graduating from the Fine Arts school from the Normal University in Taiwan, he puts into practices to promote art designs in education, in practical uses and in extension to the general population. Mr. Lin believes “the art of design is to solve problems and at the same time to achieve one’s self ego”. A good design must transform its culture and intention to combine with aesthetic and humanity. It is different from paintings, because a designer has to have consideration for people. Working at the field for over thirty years, Mr. Apex Pang-Soong Lin acknowledges with Harvard University’s school motto “You can’t choose where you are born but you can choose where your heart belongs”. Mr. Lin’s native homeland is Tungkang, a fishing village by the ocean in beautiful Taiwan-Formosa, but his heart belongs to the beauty of arts and the love to design. Professor Apex Pang-Soong Lin’s series of works, “My Taiwan”, have touched so many people’s heart including ours. He has turned his loves to his native homeland over into pieces of paintings that tell lots of memorable and vivid stories of this beautiful island to the world. We agree with his words, spirit, philosophy, and global views. We are touched by his loves to the homeland. We admire his art designs and ideas very much. Therefore we would like to introduce Mr. Lin’s story and works in our project.

Project Description: “Creativity” is the major competitive strength of the 21st century aesthetic economy. Under the global competitions between people, cooperation and nations, the winner holds the key to weather or not if one can display oneself through unique creations and designs. The Taiwanese government has already sat the goal of making “creativity and design” as the soft power to its future. Therefore, since early 1990s, we revealed several creative posters to show “Taiwanese culture” to the world. It has received worldwide attention since then. Among all creative works, one designer’s astonishing works have left people profound impressions of this beautiful island “Taiwan”. The world meets “Natural Taiwan”, “Cultural Taiwan”, “Literary Taiwan” …etc through a series of drawings by a great Taiwanese master: Apex Pang-Soong Lin. Mr. Lin has been the most important driving force to make Taiwan known international wise through his “Taiwan Image” creations. He is called “The luminary of design in Taiwan” and he’s also the first national winner of the “Literature and Art Award” by his creative art works in the year 2007. Professor Apex Pang-Soong Lin is an over-all designer who has devoted his efforts to emerge the beauty of art and practical application in market products together. He puts into practices to promote art designs in education, in practical uses and in extension to the general population. His efforts have led Taiwanese fine art artists to see the importance of design and turn it into Taiwan’s next economic power in the world. Professor Lin believes that a good design must contain both practical use and aesthetic art. He says it reflects the society as how the people live in. We are touched by his words, spirit, philosophy, global views and his loves to the homeland. We admire his art designs and ideas very much, therefore we would like to introduce Mr. Lin’s story and works in our project.
