Description of Our Community: The Jian-men recreation orchard, located in the Qie-dong Village, Da-cun Township, Changhua County, is chosen to be the high-quality education and sight-seeing orchard. Recently, the market has undergone quite a change, in stead of traditional way of cultivation, the farm has adapted organic planting with citrus fruit, such as orange, tangerines, kumquats….etc, and the third generation owner, Lai, Zhong-tian won the Shen-nong prize, the highest prize of agriculture in 2005. Now the Jian-men recreation orchard is not only the best place for fruit-picking, but also the best place for insect ecological observing. You can call it "the best classroom of natural science ".

Project Description: To ensure the safety of vegetables and fruits for the consumers, The Lai's family has been working on the “Good Agricultural Practice” (GAP) labeling system. It encourages the farmers in Da-cun Township to abide the operation guidance that recommends the uses of chemicals for pest control and records, so that their products are more competitive in the market, and at the same time, they made the decision to convert the old-style farm into a recreation orchard which's perfect for one day trip for the family. Hopefully through this visiting, we will be able to understand more about growing timetable and the organic planting of citrus fruit. Moreover, we'd like to understand more about the owner's beliefs and visions and eventually popularize the citrus fruit to more people.
