Description of Our Community: The local community we select is Huwei and Siluo. Many traditional cultures and arts in early days were born in here, such as Taiwan hand puppet show and Siluo Cikan. Huwei township is on the central point of Yunlin County, on the alluvial fan of the Zhuoshui River. The area is 68.74km2, and the population is about 70,000. Industry, business, agriculture and service are prosperous in this township, and Pili International Multimedia is based in here. Siluo Township is on the northern tip of Yunlin County, borders on Changhua with Zhuoshui River. The area is 49.8 km2. It’s one of the biggest populations on the alluvial fan of the Zhuoshui River. It’s an important town during the development period of Taiwan, and could date back to 300 years ago. Taiwan martial arts Siluo Cikan and Taiwan hand puppet show were born in here.

Project Description: Hand puppet show is a local cultural industry which is a representative of Yunlin. Last year the famous Pili hand puppet show studio was burnt down, and many puppets were gone in one night. Such destruction is tragic and has made the society feel the need to protect antiques. Thus, we name our project theme “Fire Phoenix – The Legend of Pili”, holding the spirit of connecting tradition and technology, study the inheritance, transformation, and managing styles between three generations of the Huang’s. Hoping we can make more people discover the beauty of hand puppet show through this research, and make it shines in the world. Also, we discussed the difficulties and challenge they encounter, and how they found their own stage between tradition and innovation. “Pili hand puppet show” is mainly about Huang Jiang-Hua and Huang Wun-Ze’s Pili Multimedia, and three generations’ development. Our project website is divided into several parts as the following: 1. The Legend: the three generations’ development 2. The Company: operation 3. Management: conclude and compare the three generations’ management styles 4. Torch: explore and discuss how Pili puppet show gets to be fresh and lasting 5. Culture: think about the value of Pili after fire 6. Riders: see how much effort that students made for this project 7. Game: help viewers remember the information on this website
