Description of Our Community: Cijin is an island of Kaohsiung City, surrounded with the sea. About 300 years ago, our descendents came here and earned their life by the sea, from one generation to the next. And this forms and shapes a marine culture of this place as well as the unyielding spirit to struggle with the sea. Cijin plays the role like a natural breakwater protecting the Kaohsiung Harbor from the waves. For the sake of national security, the southern part of Cijin Island was cut from the Kaohsiung land to construct a second harbor—and this makes Cijin become an island. Due to the traffic inconvenience, the phenomenon of the local residents who move to other places remains extremely serious. We hope that any constructions on the island may attract more visitors and renew the island’s glamour. However, one thing with which we feel extremely concerned is that the coastline is moving backwards with the wave’s erosion. For the recent decades, the coastline has already moved backwards for approximately 50 meters. We hope that everyone may take great care of the coastline through the activity of Cyber Fair.
Project Description: Cijin is the birthplace of Kaohsiung City. But with the time passing by, Cijin was a district (of Kaohsiung City) which was least developed. Whereas, after 1980s, the City Government were embarking on many constructions on this district and this makes the landscape of the district to become more beautiful. Now, it begins to shine, becoming the most popular tourist site in Kaohsiung City. In the weekends, many visitors come—and even the great numbers of vehicles coming from the Cross Harbor Tunnel makes the traffic of this area extremely heavy. As a member of Cijin, we have the responsibility and duty to introduce the most attractive and stunning tourist sites to each of us. Moreover, we hope that the beautiful scenery and delicious seafood may leave you a pleasant impression, and that you may have an intellectual tour to this place.
