Description of Our Community: Aboriginal Pingpu tribes are the first settlers in Siluo, which was called Sailei tribe. People from China called it Siluo, and Dutch called it Soeran. Siluo is also called Luoyang by immigrates in remembrance of their homeland – Luoyang, Fujian Province. Siluo is situated at the northern tip of Yunlin County bordering on Changhua County in the north by Jhuoshuei River. It is adjacent to Cihtong Township in the east, Erlun Township in the west and Huwei Township in the south. It is a major town of the great alluvial plain of Jhuoshuei River having an area of 4,993 hectares. Regarding Siluo, there are too many remarkable things about it, such as farm product: soybean sauce, Siluo rice, cultural traditions: Cikan martial art, puppetry shows are precious properties. Therefore, Siluo is listed as one the most important cultural places of Taiwan. Victoria Academy and Siluo Township are both located in Yunlin County, and we are one closely united entity, whether in the aspect of daily customs or habits, we are the crystal gestated by one land. As a result, promoting our local traditional culture is our bound responsibility.

Project Description: Yunlin in our title “True Martial Arts of Yunlin” is to point out the origin of this local culture, as for Siluo Cikan is our main research subject matter. We hope we could introduce and recommend this culture to more people through such a good platform like Cyberfair. We try to present the real state of mind of martial art learners, daily lives and contribution to society, and correct people’s wrong idea about martial arts presented as killing and fighting in action movies. Therefore, we adopted the most straightforward way – field survey, interview and practicing martial arts to experience a martial artist’s life. Here is our 1. The Name of Cikan: Trace back and search for the origin and tradition of the name of Cikan, introduce it from horizontal geographical location. 2. Hundred Years of Traces: See how Cikan developed in different periods from vertical histories. 3. Martial Artists’ Profiles: Present martial artists’ experiences, form a three-dimensional life image, and compare with new generation’s ideas from humane point of view. 4. Kung fu: Combine the cream of martial arts from all sects, show the excellence and attraction of Taiwan traditional martial arts. 5. Cultural Essence: Introduce Cikan related culture and tradition, show its unique charm. 6. Cikan Inheritance: A record of how students (community ambassadors) devoted to study Cikan culture, and interesting process about helping with promoting, sharing with teachers and students.
