Description of Our Community: The origin of name, “Shetou” comes from three hundred years ago, the Hsiao and Liu immigrants from Fu-chan settled down at the center part of the Babuza. During the Qing Dynasty, the Hsiao family cultivated the place now is called Shetou then this place is gradually developed into a sound community. The territory includes Chingshueiyan Temple, the Liu family’s Yueh-mei pool, etc. Since Shetou is cultivated for hundreds of years, there are historic relics here. Among all the historic sites, Chingshueiyan Temple is built at the year of 1746 and reconstructed in the year of 1819. The creek is clear like a mirror thus it was named “Chingshueiyan,” and it is one of the famous temples in the central Taiwan. Shetou is not only a beautiful and tranquil place for people to stay; there are many scenic spots for people to visit. Shetou is famous for its top three specialties, socks, guavas, and presidents of companies. Among all, socks are the most famous local specialty, thus once you have chance to visit Shetou, don’t forget to bring pairs of socks with you. The socks from Shetou have already won the famous reputation among Taiwan, and people are trying to introduce them to the world and make them world known.
Project Description: Its clear and sweet mountain water breeds the sweet and juicy guavas. With the diligent spirits, the residents in Shetou create the economic miracle of socks. Through our interviews and study, we know the specialty of Shetou, the socks, better. It is also through our study that people can know more detailed data about socks and how socks were made and thus pay more attention to socks industry to save it from decline. Therefore, it is our wish that by the chance of participating in the global school Net activity, we can evoke people’s passion for socks industry and re-win the fame.
