Description of Our Community: As we know, Taipei is the capital of Taiwan, and it was the political and economical pivotal of the island since the Japanese occupation time. Therefore, it naturally became the cradle of Taiwan’s baseball movement. In, 1906, the first baseball team was set up by the principal of “Taiwan governor prefecture high school” –now Jianguo high school. Before long, another team was brought into being by the Education University at this time. These two teams fought during that spring, and got a tie. Each team scored five times and the game ended in a tie. It was probably the first baseball game with a formal record in the history. Later, several other schools formed their own baseball teams, and that turned Taipei into a city with great importance when Taiwan opened its own baseball page.

Project Description: Mr. Guo-Cherng Hsieh devoted himself to promote Taiwan’s baseball movement, not only helping to take solid root of this sport but also leading Taiwan’s Jin-Long Little League Taichung to win the Little League World Series in 1969. Furthermore, he boosted Taiwan’s baseball teams into achieving the Little league, Senior League, and Big League, the so called “three championships” level. Mr. Hsieh was even honored as the father of Taiwan’s Little League. Through the development of Taiwan’s baseball history and interviews of the baseball realm, we could understand his fantastic and life and the connection between him and Taiwan baseball world. We also hope baseball, as a sport in Taiwan, could be liven up again. We have processed this topic for a long time since the August of 2007 till now. The related document was very hard to acquire, and the proof was relatively difficult because Mr. Hsieh passed away many years ago. And the copyright of photos was a hot potato above all. We would like to Thank Guo-Cherng Hsieh culture and education foundation, the Chinese Professional Baseball League, Chinese Taipei Baseball Association, coach Ye Guo- Hui, Mr. Xie Shi- Yuan, Mr. Chen Hong- Pi, and chief Wen Duo- Bin for their generous help when we deal with this topic.
