Description of Our Community: Wulai Township Fushan Village is situated amidst green mountains and clear rivers. The mountainous tribes surrounded by the end of the Snow Mountain Ranges is the origin of Atayal culture in Wulai area. Our school is located between Fushan Village and Yuanshan Village of Ilan County. Most Atayal people in Fushan Village were migrated from other areas through Hapen and Fuba Old Trails.

Project Description: Over the past hundred years, Fushan has nurtured Atayal people, who have hunted, lived, and raised their children here. Hapen Old Trail, known as the Taiwan Amazon, is situated in Fushan. Its abundant ecology is not only the natural treasure, but also the result of co-existence between Atayal and the nature over the past years. Today, while the controversy of Magao National Park is still heated, the aboriginal tribe in Fushan Village has been fallen, and the traditions have been gradually lost. As the decedents of the forest protectors, we the students of Fushan Elementary School hope to clarify, analyze, and examine our standpoints and those of others through this learning experience, and provide an opportunity for students to have first-hand experience on protecting the tribal environment through community participation and problem solving. We can all contribute to ecological protection by promoting environmental consciousness, and the mission of “preserving traditional culture, adapting to modern life, and creating a new vision for the tribe” through various activities and community development. From the perspective of historical development and combined with the topic of environmental consciousness, this project explored the lifestyle and spirits of our ancestors so that the young generation could inherit their wisdoms and concepts, and also interviewed the community to cohere residents’ consensus and contributed to the ecological protection by combining the community resources.
