Description of Our Community: The covered area of our community is mainly at Hsilo Town and Huwei Town in Yunlin County. The origin of our research is taking place at Hsilo Town, Yunlin County in which Master Huang Hai-Tai was born in and the origin of performing group of “The Five Prefectures Garden” found by himself. The core of this group is now called PILI Multimedia Inc. It is located at Huwei Town and well-known over Taiwan and overseas. Taking the significance of cultural beginning into consideration, we choose Hsilo Town; according to the conjunction of development of hand puppet industry, we choose Huwei Town. These two towns take us about twenty minutes from school each. We believe that after we present the discovery of hand puppet show, people of near communities understand and confirm local culture in great depth.
Project Description: Our purpose is to learn the revolution of local culture (hand puppet show); how it passed the test of time and glorified the process of producing and performing a one hand puppet show. The aim of our purpose is expressed through the subtitle of our subject - “The Passing down and Innovation of Hand Puppet Show”. The title - “The Heroes of Hsilo” mainly stresses the local confirmation of the people who had done heroic events. There were many unknown art cultivators in the old days of Formosa. Youngsters like us in this generation often ignore the local cultural treasure when we are exposed under massive information flow. We hope to gain a close-up experience of the traditional art and explore the hidden value of its culture to inherit forefathers’ cultural properties. We’d like to remind ourselves the local historical heroes from the past and furthermore to bring up this awareness to the international platform so that people of the world know what a delicate art we’ve got. Two parts of this topic are not only to know about art form in depth, but to be aware of the true value of human orientation in art genuinely.
