Description of Our Community: The name of Paiwan originated from long ago, when the tribesmen first contacted the outside world. When enquired about where they were from, they answered: “Fawan”, which was then considered the name of the tribe by people outside of the tribe. Old Fawan is the place where the early Paiwan tribesmen lived, and was the origin of the migrated North Paiwan Tribe. For North Paiwan Tribe, this is a place full of memories. Therefore, this place is a place of history and traditional culture. However, with the passing away of the older generation, the history and the culture are also dying away, unless urgent restoration is in practice. We hope that the children will visit the tribe, take a look at the slate houses, make nose whistles with the instruction of Vuvu, and go into the forests and checking out sites of historical significance. We hope that the dream of Paiwan would be passing down to generations and generations.

Project Description: [Fawan], a beautiful name A little bamboo raft is floating on the stream water under the leafy bush, where Vuvu smokes his bamboo pipe and stars at children playing at the stream bank. Under the tropical sunlight, rows of slate house can be seen on the hills, and the summer cicadas overflow the hill valley with their singings. An afternoon like this has become a dream rather than a reality. In order to bring the memory back, many elders go back to the land of past again and again, with the hope of looking at the place where they grew up for one more time. The younger Paiwan children have weaker emotion attached to this place. We hope that through the project we would be able to link Vuvu with the new generation, and rekindle the memory forgotten in the mountain forests and pick up the long-lost traditional skills
