Description of Our Community: At the early stage of Taiwanese agricultural society, people start work at daybreak and retire at sunset. Day-to-day amusement in addition to gather in front of temple plaza or under the tree, to chat idly and play chess; as well as to invite a dramatic troupe to perform traditional play, such as kua-a-hyi, nien-kua, po-tai-hyi, shadow puppets, etc. At that time, temple and theater are major leisure places for people.

Currently, Taiwan is a contemporary society with diversified culture, thus, items of leisure entertainment are varied. Under the lash of TV, movies, popular music, audience of traditional drama have gradually run off and performance of traditional play has also slight day-by-day.

Although performing environment of traditional drama is very hard, traditional art workers are still willing to pass it on and to maintain traditional art performance in order to allow Taiwan traditional culture to be continued; as well as to hear countryside melody for children.

Project Description: At the end of the Ming dynasty and the beginning of Chin dynasty, Taiwanese explain-and-sing music being brought in by immigrants from Changchou and Chuanchou; at that time, it was called as?tai-wan-kua-a?. To accommodate with local customs and practices as well as to combine Taiwan folk ballad, ?tai-wan-kua-a?, also called as?tai-wan-nien-kua?, has been gradually taking shape with thick locality tints afterwards.

Going the round of in society ?tai-wan-kua-a has already three hundred years. At the early stage, through it, ancestor’s hard-working and happiness, anger, sorrow and joy of life have been expressed; as well as it was the important vitality food for them.

Currently, explain-sing arts has gradually declined and even more facing to be an awkward situation of fail to be handed down from past generations. Through admiration and study?nien-kua?, in addition to allow us to look into ancestors’ various life, important local culture can be promoted and to find?tai-wan-kua-a?back which has been gradually forgotten.
