Description of Our Community: Lieyu is known as the Little Kinmen, and is located southwest of the main island Kinmen, Sitting between Kinmen and Xiamen. It situated at southeast of estuary of Kiulong River but still within Xiamen Bay of Fukien Province of China. Lieyu includes islets such as Dadan, Erdan, Fuxing, Menghu, Shi... Closest islet is only five kilometers apart from Mainland China. Its stratigical location makes it "the outer islets of outer islets, the front line of front line". Lieyu administrative district is divided into five villages - Linhwu, Shangqi, Shikou, Huangpu, Shanglin Villages. Total population is around five thousand people in a total surface area of 14,851 kilometre square. The places of historic interest and scenic beauty are The famous Baersan Battle Memorial Monument and War Historical Museum, Bada Tower, Jiangjun Fort, the well-known Lienu Temple. There are also wriggly Sea Shore Boulevard, fine white sandy beach, and rugged magnificent sea shore. Main local unique products are aromatic crispy Taro, Bamboo-Leaves Gong Candy, and a variety of seafoods. The scene of simple and sincere farming village in a traditional southern Fukien setting Vividly shows the unique island lifestyle of Lieyu.
Project Description: Lieyu is a place hidden with numerous treasures. Today, we will uncover its mask, for you to Through this research project, we wish to introduce the local customs and folkways of Lieyu to everybody, including its natural environment and humanities. We also wish to further investigate this island by orangizing information, field investigation, and interviews. Lieyu is divided into twenty-six natural villages. In this research project, we will introduce folkways and related development background of each villages, the most representitive place of each village, and how to proceed interesting investigation and learning experiences in these villages.
