Description of Our Community: Project Topic: Harbor Art--- the Pier2 Art District
The theme that we study is the Pier2 Kaohsiung Art District in Yencheng district, Taiwan (R.O.C.). The Pier2 Art District is nearby the Kaohsiung Harbor, and it was originally the harbor warehouse of Taiwan Sugar Company, which transport the goods by train. Therefore, proximity to a sea and railway is a special characteristic creative production zone. The main creation type of the Pier2 Art District mainly relies on craft aesthetics, which needs a spacious space for artists to elaborate their ideas. So, the Pier2 Art District is well adapted for the wish. These artistic creations include steel sculpture, metal work creation, fiber art, molding arts, ceramic art, porcelain painting, tobacco pipe, glass art, paper cutting art, clay craft, and stone pot art etc.
Project Description: Project Topic: Harbor Art--- the Pier2 Art District
The topic of our study is discussing the past, present and the future of the Pier2 District. From an abundant area to the best place to play the National celebrations of fireworks performance on Double Tenth Day, the Pier2 Art District has turned from unused warehouses to an innovative historical district. The pushers behind are the enthusiastic people and artists in creative production. Therefore, their passion and persistence for the art is the first discussed point in our research. The Pier2 Art District is a creative heaven for artists and it almost focuses on the craft aesthetics. This specialty is different from other art districts in Taiwan. Each artist in the Pier2 district plays an important role in each art filed. Through this research, discovering each artist’s creativity and concept is the second goal in the research. The Pier2 Art District is now under-charged by Bureau of Cultural Affairs, Kaohsiung City Government. Since built, it has been run by the Pier2 Artistic Development Association and Shu-Te University of Technology. So, the third discussed point in the research is to understand the difference of their management goals and their impressions about the Pier2 Art District. The Pier2 Art District is located inside the third shipyard of Kaohsiung port. It combines the Pier2 Art District with Love River, Yencheng commercial circle, Fishermen wharf and Si-zi wan to become a recreation area. Through this research, the fourth discussed point is to understand the expansionary in the future. On research methods, we use Literature Analysis, face-to-face interview and questionnaires. Through strict study process, we hope we can show their great artistic creation completely. Besides, we expect the Pier2 Art District to become bigger and bigger ceaselessly and spread its beauty worldwide.
