Description of Our Community: Have you ever been to “Gueishan Township” – a place that seems not to be noted for any special artifacts? In fact, Gueishan is the birthplace of the redbrick industry in Taiwan. The local residents are very proud of this cultural activity. For a long time, they also make much effort for this brick kiln culture dearly. We love our hometown – Gueishan so much that we would like to invite you for a redbrick tour. By doing so, you may realize the development of this brick kiln culture. Truly, the brick is not only the building block, more important; it is a considerable cultural tradition.

Project Description: In this project, we visit the brick kiln factory in Gueishan Township. Thus, the history of the brick kiln will be introduced. Traditionally, most of the houses in Taiwan were made of redbricks. During that period, it is the so-called golden age of the redbrick. However, as more and more modern buildings are formed, the demand for the brick is reduced day by day. As a result, the brick kilns are on decline gradually. Indeed, the history of a brick kiln also shows the changes of the whole society in Taiwan. “Chun Hsin Chi”, the largest brick kiln factory in Taiwan, is in Gueishan Township. As the good time and the bad time go by, how could it still stand erect and not be shaken? In what ways does the founder create the new changes for the factory? What kind of perceptions do the members of the factory hold during those days? Through the web site, let us tell you this marvelous story between the brick and Taiwan!
