Description of Our Community: Panchiao, Taipei County, a city with the largest population, about 53000 people, in Taiwan, is located at the joint of the Ta-Huan River and Hsin-Tien River in northern Taiwan. Due to the great population, many shops and stores were established in this area, representing the prospering commercial industries of the city. In particular, Panchiao becomes even more beautiful, prosperous and well-developed after the two major constructions, the new train station and building of the Taipei County Government, were completed. However, compared with its neighborhood, Taipei City, the capital of Taiwan, Panchiao doesn’t have sufficient economic and medical resources as Taipei has. Therefore, the residents here often travel a long distance to see doctors in Taipei when suffering from a serious illness. Luckily, the situation has changed, since Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, a famous hospital in Panchiao, keeps developing itself under the leadership of Dr. Shu-Hsun Chu.
Project Description: Eight years ago, Far Eastern Memorial Hospital was viewed as the biggest hospital in Taipei County, but its lack of specialties obstructed its own development. This poor situation remained until Dr. Shu-Hsun Chu came to be the director of FEMH. Based on his expertise, knowledge and perseverance, he performed many unprecedented heart operations and renewed FEMH inside out. For example, he lead his team to strive for improving the quality of medial treatment and equipment in FEMH, had the hospital united with other fifty hospitals for medical technique and experience interchanges and rooted the hospital’s foundation deeply in the community by promoting sanitation education to the public. As a result of these innovative acts and improvements, FEMH finally and successfully renewed the old impression of the residents in Panchiao. Through this project, we hope that our community, our handland and even the whole world can know how Dr. Shu-Hsun Chu with his special personalities became a successful cardiologist, lead FEMH to break the obstacles and to keep progressing within a short time, and made great and memorable contributions to Panchiao area. Furthermore, we are in the hope that by reading this project, those who are in adversity can be encouraged and bravely overcome the difficulty they face at present, just like Dr. Chu’s saying, “The only way to change the dissatisfactory reality you are in is accept challenges.”
