Description of Our Community: Wanggong is located in the western Changhua coastline, being very close to the Taiwan Strait. Most residents along the coastal area catch and breed the oyster in the near sea. The marine products, such as oysters, eels, and clamsare are quite abundant, which makes Wanggong become the biggest fishing county in Changhua. In fact, Wanggong was one of the most important and thriving ports in Taiwan during Ching-Dynasty. Thus, people said “First is Tainan, Second is Lukung, third is Wanghua, forth is bo, fifth is Wanggong,” and Wanggong was the most prosperous place at that time. After the Japanese colonial period, because the strong northeast monsoon in winter caused the movement of dune along the coast, Wanggong lost the function of a port and was followed by the decendence of its previous prosperity. In other words, the thriving of Wanggong began in Ching-Dynasty, and it declined during Japanese colonial period. Now, with a new image, Wanggong is going to present itself to us again—to show how good it is!
Project Description: Wanggong Village is one of the most important tourist attractions in Fangyuan Shiang in Changhua. In fact, Wanggong prospered very early, and it was also in its great time before. During Emperor Jiacing of the Ching-Dynasty, ships from Fujian?Siamen,ect. parked at the shore of Wanggong, bringing the goods to Lungkung by boat or bamboo raft. Thus, Wanggong became the outside port of Lungang. However, since the entrance of river was blocked up by the sediment and the river changed its way, the function of the port is not as good as it used to be. Nevertheless, the local residents in Wanggong reformed and rebuilt it with positive attitude. The reformations were finished one after another, such as Wanggong Delicious Food Street, Wanggong Fishing Harbor, Wanggong Lighthouse, Wanggong Arch Bridge. With a brand-new appearance, Wanggong is going to catch your eyes again!
