Description of Our Community: Kaohsiung is the second-largest city in southwestern Taiwan. The weather of Kaohsiung is hot and humid with afternoon thunderstorms in summer, and winters are dry and sunny with cool temperatures. Its population is 1,500,000 people. It is Taiwan's largest international port, the world's fourth-largest container port, and is a major industrial center. If you want to learn about the Taiwanese export business, then Kaohsiung is a good place to be. As a large city it offers both culture and entertainment; however, like many cities built on industrialization.

Project Description: Taiwan has an important feature, which is “military dependent’s village culture” Soldiers came from different provinces live together, get married and grow up with people of the old tribes in many areas of Taiwan. This shows the feature of racial blending. In kaohsiung, military dependent’s villages are set in three important districts. Why there are so many military dependent’s villages in kaohsiung? That’s because Kaohsiung in Japanese Occupation was an important military base of Japan. After the government moved to Taiwan, it was still an important base for the navy, army and air force. In order to take care of both the military missions and soldier’s families, those military dependent’s villages were set. After more than fifty years passed by, the unique “military dependent’s villages culture” in Taiwan gradually formed.
