Description of Our Community: Mt.Makau, which is located in Eastern Taiwan, is located in Ilan. Based on the research on the issue about the precious virgin Cypress forest. So that's another way our local community Taiwan contributes to the world.

We discovered that Mt.Chilan has the oldest Taiwan cypress virgin forest in Asia. Our government want to conserve these resources. But the location is also the holy land for aboriginal“Atayal”.

For the cultural reasons, the government has trouble commucicating with some aboriginal people about the establishment of the Makau National park. As a result, [Mt.Chilan] has come in the spotlight in Taiwan. Our local community thus has different interactions on the hot issue among the aboriginals, the government and the media. Please follow us and take a look at Mt.Chilan now!

Project Description: Our project is about the last green wonderland, Mt. Makau in Taiwan. This mountain is covered with virgin Taiwanese Cypress. It is not only the heaven of creatures but also the sacred mountain to aboriginal people--Atayal.

However, because of the high-profits, one of the organizations, the previous "owner" over-exploits the resources and that causes controversy now.

On the other hand, Local environmental protection organizations insist on establishing "Makau National Park" to preserve this area. At this time, some Atayal people insisted on setting an aboriginal autonomous area. They hope that the games or the hunging ground in their culture could remain the same.

Conflicts and arguments are around this area. But the public environmental consciousness is strong. How to protect the only virgin cypress forests in the world is very important. In our project, we explore the possibilities about how to keep the balance and harmony among government, aboriginal and ecosystem. Therefore, our project is a story about the pathos of Virgin Cypress Forests
