Description of Our Community: Shuilian locates at the East Coast, sitting at the eastern hillside of the Coast Range and surrounded by three mountains.{Shuilian)(Mizhan) and Fanshuliau. It looks like a small basin, and the village is built on the left bank of the concourse of the north river and the south one. It belongs to Shoufeng, with Yumei Village and Yanliau Village at its north and Mizhan at its west, adjoining Fenglin and Fengbin at south and the Pacific Ocean at east. Its area is around 47.03732 square kilometers. In the Shuilian Basin, the indigenous people and the Han people live together, producing a unique and diverse Shuilian culture. Shuilian is a bright pearl along the East Coast. And Niushan, a nearby hill with amazing scenery and abundant nature resources, is a secrete garden of the Hualien citizens. This area is an important place in the East Coast National Scenic Area. Besides its nature ecology, the local customs, human culture and the history are important, too. The Amis tribe here was once one of the four big tribes, and it was ranked the third one. Moreover, some historic sites of the Neolithic Era have been found here. All of these are proofs which demonstrate that Shuilian is not as poor as one might think. In fact, its plentiful and diverse facets make Shuilian a fascinating village. And that's why we are attracted by it.

Project Description: The name {Shuilian} came from the Amis language {Ciwidian}, meaning lots of leeches here. According to the research, people of Jingpu were the ancestors of Amis. The huge rock in the Amis legend is still standing in the center of Shuelien Basin, a powerful proof of the prehistoric relics. Besides the Amis culture, this beautiful village has other varied charms, such as its rich nature resources, human culture, historic relics and amazing scenery. However, the journey for Shuilian hasn't always been smooth. It experienced some crucial events such as building the Niushan Thermal Power Plant and the road-widening construction of Highway 11. We really hope that, by reading our project, people can understand its culture and the impacts it's facing now. We have two reasons tocall it the Blue Tribe. One is that Shuilian locates at the East Coast, which would make people think of blue easily. The other one is that Shuilian is facing many impacts in several ways, and the blue color just means a deep blue(sadness).
