Description of Our Community: The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is a non-profit R&D organization engaged in applied research and technical service. It was founded in 1973 by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) of the Republic of China to attend to the technological needs of Taiwan's industrial development. It has since grown to become both a technical center for industry and an important arm of the government's industrial policies. Today ITRI is a 6,000-person operation organized under twelve research divisions serving a wide range of new and traditional industries.

Project Description: The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) is a national-level, government-sponsored non-profit organization for applied research which accelerates industrial technology development, promotes industrial growth, and enhances the social well being of Taiwan.

ITRI accepts research contracts from the government and the private-sector to undertake the research of: 1.Medium and long-term applied research in development of generic, forward-looking, and advanced technologies; 2.Short-term research to improve processes and to develop new products according to industrial needs.

Most research projects will go through a trial mass production to ensure the feasibility of new industrial technologies and plans for strategic withdrawals upon project completion. The research results are disseminated to the industrial sector in a timely and appropriate fashion in accordance with the principles of justice, fairness, and openness. ITRI also provides industrial services to foster the technological development of small and medium-sized businesses and cultivate human resources in industrial technology for the benefit of the nation.
