Description of Our Community: Our village is called Lungtan ("Dragon Pond") because of a huge pond at its center. It was rumored that the pond was frequently visited by a yellow dragon who, if offered prayers, would bring rains in times of drought. Lungtan is at the southernmost tip of the Taoyuan Terrace in the northern Taiwan, and, covering some 75.2 square kilometers, is home to population of 85,000.

Nowadays Lungtan is proud of being one of the rare remaining habitats for Taiwan Water Lily. It is always a delight to welcome this bright, yellow flowers spring up in water and sway gently in the breeze. This beauteous scene never fails to reminds us of the importance to protect our lovely, native plant.

Other features of Lungtan, such as the Shih-Men Dam, the "Window on China (Lilliput)" theme park, many herbal drug touring gardens, famous domestic products (large carp fresh fish and tea), and historical sites (Sacred Pavilion and Nan-Tein Temple) continue to attract a growing number of visitors.

Project Description: Indigenous to Taiwan, Nuphar Shimadai Hayata (also named "Taiwan Water Lily") is well known as the floral emblem of our beautiful country. Once seen in almost all western swamps of Taiwan, today it inhabits only limited areas in the damp floor of Lungtan and Yanmei,Taoyuan. Rapid industrial development in recent years has dwindled its habitats considerably, and Taiwan Water Lily is now facing a real survival crisis.

This project seeks to explain the preservation process of Taiwan Water Lily. For the viewer it is also a tour to the habitats of this flower. While the future looms over our water lily, we at the Shih-Men Junior High School hope to bring this solemn issue to the attention of our society and invite more people to become involved in this meaning campaign.
