Define

The first stage of project development requires defining the scope and depth of your project. Many first-time developers will jump right past this phase in the excitement of creating their first Web site, only to find their project quickly falls apart.

Don't even think about it. For most developers, the definition phase proves to be the most important stage of the project. At its simplest, defining your Web project can be seen in the following sequence of events:

The following includes a list of items that will be addressed as you Define your project:

  • build teams
  • brainstorm new ideas
  • define communication and development strategies
  • understand characteristics of effective Web projects
  • set goals and objectives
  • identify and assign tasks
  • create timelines
  • identify resources
  • enlist help
  • set the foundation for the entire project
