Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

China has a vast territory, each of which has a different style because of regional differences. Beijing, in the ninth year of Yuan Dynasty, that is, 1272AD, is positioned 'Dadu', first time in history became the capital of China, it was the center of traffic, and artistic and cultural exchange center. Yuan Dynasty, and China's last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty, ruling by the minority nationalities. Therefore, some of Beijing's culture is under the influence of minority nationalities. Current Beijing is a moderate big city, it has many good buildings, for example, the “Bird’s Nest”, the main building for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

2. Summary of Our Project

During this event, I introduce the background, feature and structure of the “Bird’s Nest”. The “Bird’s Nest” is made of steel, it was started on December 24, 2003 and the construction was completed in March 2008. After the Olympic Games, the “Bird’s Nest” is now regularly for international track and field competitions, and also concerts.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Parents become the problem of the event. In China, parents pay more attention to the class grade. They are worried about the event might affect students regular lives. Students spend their time on the event might shorter their study time and lower their grade. Therefore, I talk to parents and they agree their children join to the event. Parents understand that students need extracurricular activities to enhance social knowledge.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

My students become courageous, and I feel close to the students and their parents.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

During the event, I need to take students to the “Bird’s Nest” and the students can take pictures. Parents trust me. Also, I learn the techniques to communicate with parents.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

I think the internet is a double-edged sword. My students can find information easier and quicker on internet. However, they do not go to library and read books. There are many complex information includes good and bad on internet, so parents need to pay more attention to children.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

They didn't interview people.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

This is the first time my students and I participate in the event and it is a memorable experience. Hope this is a beginning, there will be more students in our school participate in this kind of activities and students can enhance the teamwork and help each other.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Here, I would like to thanks all parents supporting our activities. They can be examples for other parents. The activities will not affect students with lower their grade.
