Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Cishan area called yams old Liu, Cishan in agriculture is very suitable for the cultivation of bananas. According to records; Cishan species of banana about starting around 1925. Cishan area once known as Taiwan's 'banana kingdom' because Cishan banana production, good quality. Of course, in addition to bananas once glory, starting from the Japanese colonial era, cane sugar production is mainly used as raw material until the postwar era, Sugar industry still bring significant economic benefits, now Cishan sugar mills, has been transformed into a tourist and ice supply main. Cishan area has many historical monuments and delicious snacks, while holiday the tourists like to take a trip to explore the cultural and historical tours and tastes food.

2. Summary of Our Project

Street is the memory of the land, a microcosm of the history, but also the residents of deep emotion. Thus, visited Qishan Street is not just a nostalgia trip, but a trip to the historical roots row, visible from Qishan historical perspective rendering. Qishan Street connotation rich, diverse buildings along the street, has a long history; on both sides of the business district, business diversity, is both a historical era and cultural characteristics of the street. 4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Time pressure: teaching in schools range in order to participate Research Project, we have spare time in the library or the Internet to find information, organize, share, discuss and upload occasional group meetings and distribution of work, contact the interview object and field interviews, photos and information also interviewed organize, edit, and finally thematic web production, had to use vacation time against the clock, but fortunately everyone's efforts and understanding to overcome the problem of time.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Qishan Street was originally the place we live, but we do not know much of its history! I did not expect because the factors involved in the topic of the page, plunge began to study and found that this theme really is profound Street ah! Students explore the use of information and tools to understand their place in the community, in the course of the study, we found that students often play with the computer as a tool, rather than learning aids, so we by this Taiwan Cyberfair activities, guide students to utilize the information media, gather information, develop information media literacy, but also through fieldwork planning of the personally prepare interviews, record interviews, field trips, and discover relevant historical legend, this small study of the research team of students of ability and vision is indeed a great diligence and inspiration. 2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

The research team for this project is mainly form with the year 5 students in our school. Therefore this project is on the students view point and their understanding. To understand the history of Qishan old street students must look up some information from the internet. Then, we prepared a few interview with the local old professions through the telephone. We have received lots of information and making good relationship with the local community during the interview to the old professions. Thus we hope we can make a good effort on this project.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Over the years the school IT education junction of the school curriculum this legislation, and through thematic research activities of planning, the integration of historical and cultural monuments based courses to IT education as a method, active exploration for the spirit, in-depth understanding of the essence of humanities, let as in Qishan children of our students to recognize the experience of ancestors and history and culture, cultivate the courage to explore the spirit of self, and actively pursue the true face of history. By activity Cyberfair of this team we have the honor of making and to search the whole 'Qishan old Street' relevant historical, monuments and legends, let people know more about the community, 'Qishan old Street 'culture and history.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

During the study of the topic, the student-protagonist, in order to expand research antennae, students are required to have the ability to collect information and aggregate data, but must personally visit the historical connection with the investigation, so we contacted respondents by telephone, the full expression of our research topics of interest and concern, hoping to grow our home, full of knowledge and understanding, then after several telephone contact, to determine a good date, time, place, and finally, they were filled and ready to go looking for a personal visit, in-depth look historical origins of our community, 'Qishan old street' is, today monuments and folklore, hoping thematic research site production, so that we have a better understanding, although we approached the process via multiple adapter, contact, planning, waiting, but the object will be interviewed always eager to respond, therefore we got a lot of rich information, but also the community and established a very good communication bridge.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
