Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Tianjhong township is located in southeastern area of Changhua County. Tianjhong is also close Shetou township in the north, Mingjian township of Nantou county in the east, Sijhou and Ershuei township in the south, and Tianwei township and Beidou township in west. Tianjhong is a abundant and diverse town with various business organizations, such as Weilih company(producing instant noodles), Taisun enterprise(producing foods or drinks), and Shenghong hosiery company(producing socks). Thanks for these business organizations, Tianjhong is getting more and more prosperous.

2. Summary of Our Project

Tianjhong is famous for its socks, and most of socks in Tianjhong are made by Shenghong hosiery company. In the beginning of 1960s, Shenghong hosiery company produced scarves with patterns of national flags, which was well-known to everyone. Then, it turned to produce socks with various functions, and also created the brand--'Soxlink' to represent its products. To reveal the procedures of producing socks to tourists, Soxlink tourism factory, located at the at the junction of Tianjhong and Shetou township in Changhua county, was established in 2011. By introduction of our project, you can come here and realize this local organization more!

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:21-50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:4-6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

We used 6 personal computers with network connected in computer classroom. Through TANET, our network speed is 100 Mbps. After school, we used computers with broadband at home.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Two main problems we had to overcome during the period of researching. One problem is that because we are nine-grade students, we should attend the addition classes on Saturdays. The pressure of schooling was very heavy. Therefore, it was difficult for us to visit Soxlink tourism factory in leisure time. The other is to how to design our website. Fortunately, Mr. Yang gave us a big hand, and we finished this job finally.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Knowledge is power. During the period of designing the website, we realized the power of network. By the established website, the various products of soxlink tourism factory could be known by people all over the world. Therefore, how to utilize the skills of computer technology is very important!

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

During the researching process, we had combined skills we learned from the curriculum domains of languages, society, as well as information technology to do this project. When interviewing, we took photos and recorded some useful information with digital cameras. After the visit, teacher Tsou directed us how to arrange the information held in our hands and compile it into a complete and detailed report. Then, teacher Yang taught us how to create web pages with some computer softwares, such as Namo Webeditor and Photo Impact. After several months of hard working, we have done the great job successfully.

Photo Impact Image Processing Photo Cap Image Processing Namo Webeditor 6 Website Designing Microsoft Office type information into TXT files Filezilla Client Upload web pages Oral Interviews

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

After the end of this visit, all of us shared what we saw and heard in Soxlink tourism factory to our neighbors, families and friends, and recommend them to buy the real MIT products, such as the products of Soxlink tourism factory.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Tianjhong is a small town located in the south of Changhua county, so we choose the local business organization--Soxlink tourism factory as our theme of the project to allow people around the world to know this small town. The Soxlink tourism factory has experienced a period of industrial upgrading and rising wages since 1950s. And, many other companies have been relocated with mainland China and Southeast Asia, in order to save on labor costs. The Soxlink tourism factory stayed in Taiwan, but changed the quality socks. Plain socks upgraded from common socks to multi-purpose functional ones now. By establishing the website, we hope there are more people know about Tianjhong and its local products--socks!

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

When we visited Soxlink tourism factory, some tourists and customers gave us some advices about its products of socks. They all highly praised the quality of the socks. In addition, the representative there also clearly introduced the factory and products to us, which helped us very much.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

After finishing the project, we understood the importance of cooperation. Without one of the team members, the project could not be finished.
