4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1. CCS of the web page is hard to understand. A little mistake in detail would mess up the layout of the web page. =>We tried to change the software and choose the familiar ones to make the web page. 2. All of the group members are quite unfamiliar with picture compression. => We googled the instruction and make a SOP picture for picture compressing. 3. It is the first time for some of group members to use Facebook, which the major communication way in this activity. => We spent a week using Facebook in the computer classroom. After that, all the students can know well about it. 4. The record of interview can't be heard clearly. => If the information is trivial, we will ignore it. If it is important, we will give the tape to other teammates to re-listen to it. 5. The framework is different from the original one. => Keep everyone have the newest data whenever we upload new stuff.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

It brings us a new vision for learning.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

For this CyberFair project, many lessons are designed for increasing students' abilities. The concepts of lessons are follows.

Language Field: Composition writing is an important teaching point in this project. All the students have to know how to produce many long and coherent articles to describe our character and his deeds. Moreover, for CyberFair, they have to learn to elaborate web titles. Social Study Field: By join this web making activity, students can know the resource difference between cities and remote country. Integrative Activities: From the activity, they can appreciate themselves talents. And according to their special talents, they cooperate and make the project well-done. Also, they can make well-organized plan and carry it out.

Arts Field: Students’ imagination can be aroused by many kinds of media. And with the combination of art and media, students can create the layout of web pages. Moreover, they can appreciate others’ ideas for layout design. With discussion, analysis, judge, they can express their experience and opinion on the design. Information Education Field: Students can understand multimedia computer equipment and get familiar with many kinds of software. And they know the basic programming language. Also they are able to use the free software to modify photos and make graphics for the web page making. While composing the webpage date, they can obey the law of intellectual property rights.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The information tools and technologies we used include: •number and type of computers: Laptop x4, PC x12, Tablet PC x1 => for data construction, web page design •telephones, smart phones, cellphones => connect with team member when they are off-line from the Internet. •video and digital cameras => record our web page implementation data and their reflection of this activity. •digitizers and scanners: Scan the newspaper and magazine of the person we interviewed. •computer software: Word2003, Word2010, notepad, Photoshop, SAI, DreamwaverCC, Windows Picture, Fax Viewer => composition writing, picture retouching, webpage making. •libraries: Tzu-Wen Library => learn the skill for interviewing people •books, newspapers: The First Book for Knowing National Primary and High School Science Fair, China Times => to know more about the person we interviewed About those information tools and technologies, DreamwaverCC is the most helpful software. Compared to making web pages with notepad, Dreamwaver CC is much more convenient for students to make the layout of the web pages. And the video camera which we borrowed from our school also plays an important role in this activity. It can take high quality pictures and have a nice video shoot with a blue tooth microphone.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

For CyberFair project, students have to communicate with not only our interviewee but also other school and students. They talked to our interviewee, Teacher Magic, about our CyberFair project. To the school our students connected with, at first, the school officers of An-Xi worried that we will disturb their courses. Fortunately, after our students promised many times and their first-day performance, the school officers finally were welcome us to their schools to have science implementation course with their students. While having science courses, our students also showed their enthusiasm toward those students of An-Xi Junior High School. Our students tried to be good helpers in doing the implementation although some of them were not good at making implementation works and ruined one of the students’ implementation works. To our surprise, the student whose work was ruined was still passionate while our students interview him for the reflection of the course. After our students experienced the implementation courses, they learned a lot from Teacher Magic, and tried to act as “Little Teacher Magic” to give science implementation course on YouTube. With their promotion, many of students begin to rethink what learning is. And one thing special that is worth mentioning is about some teachers who heard about our project. They begin to change their teaching ways instead of giving students many tests to push them to study. It sounds like a miracle in such a score-only school.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

CyberFair really bring a great change to us. It is shameful to admit that we’ve never heard about CyberFair before this year. For a log time, the schools in this community always make much effort to push students get high scores on examination. Due to Teacher Jian-Miao Chen, there is a new way of bringing students ability of learning and new vision to the world after we join in this project. To involve in this project, all the students discover their lack of integration ability. What they learned before was some fragmentary details from each individual subject. The way they can apply what they learned is doing the quiz. Yet, when they tried to build up the data for web pages, they discover what they learned before was not enough. And learning the activity, they got a lot of pragmatic knowledge. And their hard-working and performance touched people around them. The parents begin to notice about kids' ability besides studying books. They will care about what kind of ability is important for their children. Moreover, after surfing the web page, some teachers in our school had use the way of implementation to teach their subject; some students begin to value their ability of observation and thinking. This web site seems to bring the beginning for teaching revolution in the community.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In this project, we are very appreciated the assistance for the other teachers in our school, the parents, and the suggestion from our county government. Actually, the major teachers participated in this project major in Chinese, English, and Physics. None of them is good at web page design. And only two of the students have learned basic web page making. While making the pages, we faced a very big problem – the disorder of layout when we switched the browser. Thanks for Teacher Fu-Yi Chen, who gave us a lot of skill suggestion. Without him, we can’t overcome those technological barriers. Also, the supports from the parents are also important. In data building, they drove our team to the places we had to go, and taught us how to edit the film when we were confused about the procedure of film processing. As to the county government, there are seven professional webpage supervisors giving us some suggestion to revise the form of web page. For example, they told us we have to recheck hyperlinks, and the work needs a homepage. Also, for the supervisors, we know the presentation order of the web page is not so suitable for understanding a person. Most important of all, they remind us that we can’t embed YouTube film inside of our work. We’re really grateful toward those helpers’ assistance. Without them, the work would not be done as scheduled.
