1. Description of Our Community
Our “local community” referring to: The indigenous people are spread across a vast area from the north of Taiwan to the south. However, the indigenous people nowadays are gradually becoming more like the Han Chinese, only a small number of indigenous people that still live totally in their traditional culture. The following is the list of the various tribes: 1? Atayal: located in Tai Chung, Pu-Li, Hua Lien, along the line to the north in the hills, including Tai Chung, Nan Tou, Miao Li, Xin Zhu, Tao Yuan, Yi Lan, and Hua Lien, with current population of 60, 000 plus. 2? Saisiyat: Located in Xin Zhu’s five fingers hill and Miao Li’s Da Dong stream area, with population of about 3, 000. 3? Bunun: Located on both sides of the central mountain range, Nan Tou, Hua Lien, Kao Xiong, and Tai Dong, population of about 30, 000 plus. 4?Tsou: Located in Nan Tou, Jia Yi, and Kao Xiong, population about 5,000. 5?Paiwan: Located in southern’s Zhi Ben hill. Including kao Xiong, Ping Dong, Tai Dong, population of about 40, 000plus. 6?Rukai: Located in Tai Dong, Ping Dong, Kao Xiong, population about 7,000 plus. 7?Puyuma: located in tai Dong, population of about 6, 000. 8?Amis: Located in Hua Lien, Tai Dong, Ping Dong, population of about 12,000 plus. 9?Yami: Located in Tai Dong, population of about 2,000 plus. 10?Shao: Located near Sun Moon Lake. (Awaiting confirmation if Shao belongs to the Ping Pu tribe.) 11?Kavalan: located in YiLan, Luo dong, Su Ao area, and also towards Hua Lien city and East coast. 12?Located in Hua Lien’s He Ping stream.
2. Summary of Our Project
Summary: The main content is to illustrate the arts and culture of the 12 main tribes of Taiwan’s indigenous people, e.g. clothes, dance, festivals, housing, customs…. Etc. Introducing the following tribes: Bunun, Paiwan, Tsou, Amis, Puyuma, Tao, Atayal, Rukai, Saisiyat, Zou?Taroko?Kemalan?

Main factor of this research topic project
To implement this topic into local cultural teachings (under social topics), to better what is available now. Q: What skills have we learnt? A: We’ve learnt effective research methods, how to build website, and how to sort information and to collaborate efficiently. Q: What are the teamwork principles that we have actually came across? A: The powerfulness of working together cooperatively. Q: Any specific concepts that we have experienced? A: Different ethnic groups have different cultural beliefs. Q: How does this research topic match or fit with our class’s needs? A: There are more notes for the local culture class. Q: What problems with the current education system have we discovered during this research process? A: The courses of the various levels are not related. Q: What role do we take in school? A: Students. Q: Is teaching and learning more effective by using the internet than traditional methods? A: Although effective is possible under the traditional methods, but in order to act in concert with students, who all have different pace of learning, using the computer would be more helpful.
