Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Ping-dong is a County which located at the end of the south Taiwan. Ping-Dong’s latitude is low; so it is hot in four seasons, and full of human interest. The rice of Ping-dong County is most early-maturing; because the weather with this county is sunny, and has good quality water .Ping-Dong is also one of the granaries of Taiwan. The people in Ping-dong are hospitable and people are simple, honest, and unspoiled. The main economic activity relies on agricultural fishery. So, peasants of Ping-dong are close naturally and cherish naturally. They don’t want to waste the naturally resource. Set out with this idea; make out pieces of rope and making the person enjoy endless aftertastes. With the agriculture conversion, it could be a gift that Heaven gives to people who know to treasure it

2. Summary of Our Project

At the one exhibition, we saw a dragon was made with the rope and it is about 0.67 meters high. This dragon is quite remarkably. The rope is very important necessary for traditional society. Unexpectedly someone can make it into an exquisite work of art now. This causes our great interest, and decided to let this person become to our interview objective of the network exhibition. Our research methods include collecting the materials, personage's interview, and practical operation and so on. The most of funny thing is the four times research and study in school. With Li Long's instruction, let us understand more with this interview personage.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:2-3

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:1

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Experts of straw rope weaving, our subject, were not easy to find. According to Li Long, it was originally created by him. For the above reasons, it was quite hard for us to search for the information. However, we found some materials through the help of the Internet and local library. There weren’t many papers, but it was good enough for us to grasp the idea of straw rope weaving.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Observe everything with your heart.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

As to the enhancement of our information accessibility, we hold a scientific and cautious attitude. Through the operation skills of searching on the internet, audio recording in interviews, taking pictures by digital camera, visual recording, editing of homepage, etc., we are able to cultivate ourselves to make the full use of technological information in our daily life.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

Everyone participated in this activity with large enthusiasm. With parents’ support. Every tool was indispensable to our work, but among all were the computer and digital camera. All of us had learnt skills of taking pictures. It was an extra harvest!

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

The discovery activity was a painstaking task, and it also took lots of efforts running between Ping Dong and Kaohsiung. However, our best reward is that we’ve popularized this activity to our school, and we’ve changed the annual science party into folk game party. It sends children a chance to know these simple, lovely, environment-protecting toys and to stop them from abandoning themselves to TVs and computers. In addition, we also hope we can introduce these toys to the whole. You’ll see how lovely the toys are. Natural, charming, and environment-protecting, these toys are our treasure!

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Through this activity, we realize how ancient people cherished resources, and it seems easier for us to see what kind of emotion they held when facing Nature. We have learnt a lot from Li Long’s story of creating straw rope weaving. As long as we try things with our full heart, we will create something unusual, something great! We want to send our special thanks to Li’s uncle though he didn’t formally take our interview. With some Hakka accents, which made us confused during the conversation, he introduced Li’s work with great passion. He’s been watching Li since Li was a little kid, and his introduction told us where Li’s spirit lies in his work.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

First of all we’d like to thank Professor Li for giving us so much help. The information he provided and things he taught us made our research complete. Mrs. Li and Li’s relatives supported us by sending us lots of valuable information. Thank you. Another special thanks to our teachers, Chou,Yang and Chiou. They guided us and inspired us by giving us some ideas. They also planned all kinds of actions for us, and they pressed us to maintain our schedule while we were postponing. To our parents, who gave us a hand while we needed help and who guided us all the time: thank you!
