Project Description: Recently, it is difficult to find children playing communal traditional games. Furthermore, by the rapidly invasion by modern games that invaded almost all segments of society. Consequently, traditional games faded and lost from the people. Although, traditional games are the heritage which consists moral values and philosophies that should be conserved. Besides to preserve our ancestors' heritage, the traditional games should be conserved since they give many educative benefits for the children. Playing is significant with childrens' growth physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Playing is the way to explore and develop childrens' motoric including the understanding the values in life. Traditional games give the alternative ways which is rich with cultural values, and even in these days they are almost extinct unless being conserved by us and being developed. Traditional games, recently become the very rare items. Yet, if we analyze we will find the traditional games which contibute in the development of children's potention, such as, motoric, spiritual, social, and cognitive developments and other growth aspects in the children. Tientje, et all. (2004) stated that the certain existing traditional games and some sports are very alike, in the ways of having certain playing rules and giving pleasures for the players, besides relaxation, happiness, dan challenges. The interactions occured when children play traditional games give opportunities for children to develop their social skills, linguistic competences, and emotional skilss. The traditional games in West Java are considered playing activities (kaulinan budak/ children’s games) which were raised and developed in West Java area, which are very rich with values of the culture and the values of the life of the Sundanese.
