" Project Description: " Weaving is a work of art, it is not an easy task because it takes a lot of effort and time coupled with much perseverance. Woven products can’t be done by machines, man power is really needed to finish and fully furnish each product; therefore, a weaving company serves a big source of employment because even a small weaving company needs 50 to 60 employees. In Baguio City, Philippines, weaving serves as a means of livelihood that helps in the industry and economy of the said city. Weaving also serves as a recreational work of art for the natives. Weaving also helps in preserving the culture of the Cordillerans which we hope to promote in our site. Our main data gathering tool was our interviews. We interviewed two big companies that are here in the City of Baguio:Narda’s Weaving Company and Easter Weaving Company. Narda’s is a company owned and managed by Mr. Wilson Capuyan and Mrs. Narda Capuyan. It started way back 1970’s. Easter Weaving Company is owned and managed by Yasser Aris C. Buting. It started way back 1908 by Charles Henry Brent of the Episcopal Chruch in the United States, founded in 1906 Easter School in Baguio City. To this little church school hundreds of kilometers away from their homes, eight little Bontoc boys were transported to receive private education 5 years later girls followed in their steps and so did the beautiful traditional art of weaving which a lady missionary, Deaconess Hargreaves, ensured would neither lost nor forgotten. Aside from the interviews, we gathered data from books and the Internet, compiled them and created this website. We hope that through this site, we will be able to showcase the products of weaving here in Baguio City so that people from different places will be encouraged to come and avail of this beautiful products. Our site aims to show the viewers how beautiful the art of weaving in Baguio City. It will give people information on how the people of Baguio make these products. It will also help people to start their own business because we included it in our website. " |
