Project Overview

1. Description of Our Team

The reason why we joined in this competition is to show how the officials of Baguio city implement peace and order. We want to prove to others how we are aware of the events that concern the safety of the people. Baguio city’s target is to lessen the crimes and to make the city safer to local citizens and tourists. We believe with our own little ways we can be role models to others and promote peace and its effects. We also want to bring back the old Baguio with fewer crimes and more visitors. We decided to join as a team to create this website because we know that the four of us can work together as a team and promote diplomacy. As a team we rely on each other’s strengths as an individual and using it as advantage to finish our goal. It is to create a website that will make our viewers more alarmed about the measures of the local government. Our first member, Lloyds G. She can be considered as the most responsible of our members and is very dedicated to her studies and projects. She always gives her 100% to anything she does and would go to a long way to achieve our goals. She is very optimistic in everything that’s why she’s a big addition to our group. Our next member is Jenina F. She has a big sense of justice and is always aware of the present happening that’s why she becomes our source of information and opinion. She’s quite into politics that’s why she’s quite knowledgeable about these aspects. She dreams to become part of the school’s debate team. Next is Caryl B. She is passionate when it comes to computers and is good at it. She spends most of her time learning about new stuff and never gets tired of it. She is sensible, kind and can sometimes be considered a hard worker. Last but not the least is Bethany D. She is fearless when it comes to giving opinions to different issues that sometimes gives us ideas about how to express ourselves. She maybe clumsy at times but she is very reliable.

2. Summary of Our Project

Baguio City, also known as City of Pines, is a place where we aim for peace and order. So we decided to sum up all of the top 10 solutions for these crimes in and other crimes in Baguio project and what movements the government does to prevent such problems. The aim for peace is not an easy path. We believe this is possible through the concerted effort of the police and responsible citizens. Crime is inevitable most especially that our population is growing that we are greatly influenced by the power of media. As we are growing aware of this many ideas that provoke us to try the negative ways, it is greatly alarming to view the ever increasing trends of crime. So we are advised to be always vigilant. Here on our city, we have adopted several laws to be implemented to secure safety and order. In the field of our policeman, they have always emphasized the value of integrity because they know how much this means to everyone. Peace and order here in our city can be our way to success through this aim we can even be recognized throughout our country. Cooperation of the people is a must to attain our aim. This is also an alarming issue because of the unsolved crimes in the city since there are people who are afraid of telling the authorities for the fear of getting rejected or revenged by those criminals. Another thing is the one who are commit ting crimes are becoming younger ; the sad thing is some causes of this are unjust or unorganized way of implementing our laws. This just proves how much peace and order means a lot not only to the City of Baguio but also to other communities. This is our way to success.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Our computer and Internet access was not that constant throughout the duration of the project. There were some issues in getting online at any point in order to do research or connect with each other. We had a hard time to communicate with each other when we’re not in school. Even though we had these troubles, towards the end of the competition, we worked at one another’s houses or in the public library so that we were even more in sync.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The main problem we encountered is looking for the right person to interview. Having this kind of topic we have to go beyond our limits and embrace our new found knowledge regarding our topic in order to finish our website. We as students have limited knowledge so all of our resources are based on our interviews.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Our participation in the Doors to Diplomacy has opened our eyes to the realities of today and how our government officials do their best to implement laws to prevent these crimes. We learned that each of us has a role in this project that no matter how difficult it is as we see, it may bring us and our school honor and recognition that may greatly affect our city. Thru this project we may be able to express our thoughts and our creative team as teenagers, and as students.

6. How did your activities and research for this Doors to Diplomacy Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We as students adhere Christian spirit. Through our website we show how we can help our fellow Christians to be more aware and vigilant to this crimes that destroys our image as the future of our country just like what our national hero said “the children is our country’s future”. As students and Christians we are obliged to help in whatever way we can.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your Doors to Diplomacy project?

To complete this project, we used our digital camera to capture the realities our society is facing nowadays. With these books, we got information about how our local government is handling crimes. Interviewing is one way to get more information because they have first-hand experience and, therefore, are a good source of credible information.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your Doors to Diplomacy project both on-line and in person.

We can act as ambassadors through our website by opening the minds of our readers to participate in turning Baguio a peace loving community. We should like to promote unity because we believe that our voices as students would be heard by our authorities and would be a means of giving our suggestions to help prevent crime and move for a change and better, secure future. Technology is what we would use to let our opinions and voices to be heard.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our project will involved other community members by showing the importance of our project and by sharing good ideas and important aspect on how to maintain peace and order in the city. These aspects are related to human rights. They will be involved because we will illiterate all of the benefits that will keep us safe and secure.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We asked help from different people in our community who gave us adequate information that would help us in accomplishing this project. We also sought help from our very supportive parents. Our group also exerted much effort for the accomplishment of this project. We gave our time to create websites, articles and the in order to have successful output. We would also think to thank people who gave us the chance to join the International Doors to Diplomacy Competition.
