5. Our Project Sound Bite

Students worked really hard to accomplish their goal. But the first time is really hard for them. I don't muind that they didn't get the awards. Courage them to do it better and then do it again next year. Living in a boarding school that do not allowed students to bring computer is very hard finish it on time.

6. How did your activities and research for this Doors to Diplomacy Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We have tailored our project toward the promotion peaceful co-existence of human beings around the World. We hope to teach others the existence of the different military powers that is in the World in order to find a 'true' peaceful solution to the World's problems. We cannot ignore the existence of the powerful arsenals of the World while talking about peace. We must pull our heads out of the sands of ignorance and embrace understanding of military power in order to find peace. Taiwan is a nation being toyed by two super powers, by understanding the military implication of these power, we may find a true solution to our nationhood.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your Doors to Diplomacy project?

We had help from the teachers at Pu Tai. We also had help from some of our parents, and relatives who had all served in the military; service in military is mandatory in Taiwan. We searched libraries and internet for the relevant information we needed.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your Doors to Diplomacy project both on-line and in person.

In Taiwan we are not allowed to have 'ambassadors', as China will not allow Taiwan to be recognized as a nation. The U.S. in the meanwhile will not recognize us as a nation either for their own personal interest. Yet, Taiwan is an independently operated state with its own internationally recognized passports and no monetary, political, nor military aide from either countries. Taiwan is an orphaned child much like Cuba or the Falklands, no one wants to help it but everyone want to control it. We want to reach the people of Taiwan and the World to let them know what it is like to be the cookie that 2 spoiled children are fighting over and to expose the hypocrisy that the united nation and the rest of the World is involved in.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We hope to bring illumination to the medieval thinking of Taiwanese and the World. People often talk about peace without understanding the price of peace or what peace is. We wish to show people that while people are talking about peace and diplomacy often they are preparing their guns and tanks in the background. We simply like to show people what those big brothers of the World is hiding in their cloaks while they are talking beef with you.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our sources comes from various places from books to internet to people we know. We like to thank our teacher Mr. Jiang for give us this opportunity to compete and all those who supported us in our effort. Thanks, dorm teachers... you guys are the best.
