Project Overview

1. Description of Our Team

Our idea of participating in this contest was born with the introduction of the standards and objectives of the competition by our mentor, IT professor Sofia Tosheva. She presented us a very solid and detailed information about this project. The first one that was informed about the project felt deep interest and connection with diplomacy is an 18-year-old high school student Martin Timov. He introduced this idea to three classmates who are also students at the high school, 'Jane Sandanski'. These students were Verica Vulanovikj, Mirjana Tosheva and Gorgi Georgiev. Together they developed the idea, reviewed the various inspirational topics contained in this comprehensive organization and extensive project. Seeking advice from other people, it was concluded that over a certain topic we should capture the essence of the Balkans and close this topic up worldwide.

2. Summary of Our Project

The Balkan is a specific region in terms of historical problems. It is a sociological milestone, interwoven network of conflicting views, complex and controversial stories of the various spheres of national dilemmas and active centers of political and strategic interests. Over the years, the Balkan passes through various stages not only on the political and sociological level, but also on a variety of topics covering the most critical details, which are cultural and social characteristics of the people. The man is everywhere the same - experiencing falls and lifts which reflect its comprehensive phenomenon. He is the reason for any kind of intellectual development – from the political, through polite, until sociological expression. As mutated man the man from the Balkan on every level of his reach, will develop further in our presentation.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

-Till 2010 the only classroom that was equipped with computers and internet access was the IT classroom with 20 computers. Nowdays as the government project “Computer for every student” was implemented, our school has nearly 120 host computers and 580 thin clients. Each host computer is divided to be used by 5 thin clients via Ethernet network.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

?) Incorporating and Combining our Ideas Due to the composition of the team we had for making this project, we managed to make a symbiosis of our ideas and we translated all of our knowledge into a form through which we can influence the world and present our vision of how we imagine the past. In a cosmopolitan way, we managed to give a democratic representation of all cultural and social welfare interests of man. It is the result of the different ideas emanating from us. We have created a balance of all our creativity and presentation.

B) Time Management As each project this one too requires total dedication and commitment. First, we had a problem finding room for collective operations. But thanks to the understanding of the principal of our school, we provided a room where we had access to wireless-connection and we were free to concentrate on making our project. We also had a problem choosing a topic on which we will write and explore, but thanks to Professor Marjan unanimously decided to dedicate human anthropological side, covering education as a sub-topic of our research. Thus, we can coordinate for our efforts to result with positive characteristics.

C) Problems on our way This project requires previous experience including skills from different areas. Our team consists of four high school students with different profiles and therefore was not easy to coordinate with time. We prepared for four years in the field of informatics and gathered information from all areas. We can not precisely define how long it took us to complete this project, because to be competent to work on such a project, time is nothing, only dimension, which is unclear.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The profile of men, which is composed of many features has always been a topic of interest. We, capturing only one peninsula (Balkan) of many gave a clear idea how we live, a little bit differently. It is a sufficient provocation for influence not only closer to our environment, but also beyond.

6. How did your activities and research for this Doors to Diplomacy Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our project deals with research on the specifics of the Balkan Peninsula, especially within education. For that we had to come into contact with very rich history of the Balkans, to view different identities, to mix together different concepts like religion, ethnicities and educational profiles in individual areas of this region. We think this is an original theme and as such, aims to give an insight into the general situation and show what is actually done and how it is evaluated in this region. This topic that we have chosen has a great specificity and as a whole doesn’t have a tremendous relationship with all the goals required by the category Peace and Democracy, but has a great affinity to reach a global level showing social problems. We developed the historical themes and the impact of historical events on the present through different perspectives which even helped us to comprehend the region we live in. We had great help from mentors and teachers from our school that have explained us the way of displaying the purpose of our topic. Through the study of computer science we had the knowledge and ability to build and refine the project to create a creative website and a lot of multimedia with many links. In support of writing and finding materials of great help to us was history, and other social subjects. Overall, this project reflects our commitment and our extensive knowledge of school subjects, and that helped us to refine them.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your Doors to Diplomacy project?

Our production is mainly performed on multiple computers,we used literaturefrom old books and we made interviews with people. From great help to us wasinternet connection and through many web sites we have found a suitable material that has helped us in upgrading of our project . Also, we found solid material fromlocal television and Web sites of local states.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your Doors to Diplomacy project both on-line and in person.

Our project plays a major role in presenting the educational process and specifics of these spaces. We are happy that in some way, we are ambassadors of our country and wider. That is because there is a little backward and forgetfulness of the Balkan Peninsula in relation to other countries in Europe. Many people in the world do not have enough information for the Balkan Peninsula and this is a way for them to educate and learn a little more what is happening and how to live in these areas. It is a way to motivate and inspire and, most importantly, to be interested in the social system in the Balkans. We want other nations, especially the powerful states to feel the magic that rules the Balkans and the way things are decided here. There is a risk of riots because of potential conflicts of various ethnic, religious and demographic character. Education is the most vulnerable point because it developes and educates the youngest in further influential individuals in society and therefore their parents would not want anything that could negatively affect them and different from their beliefs.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

With this project we want to present the state of our people and how they live in these areas and realize their rights to education. We hope that presenting the way the education system will influence the awareness of people around might contribute to making some useful reforms. Lets start from us. We have learned many things from this project and we clarified things for whom we did not have enough information and understanding. From here we expect to influence the educational system and force the responsible to think in a cosmopolitan perspective and to look to satisfy all sides of society, regardless of whether it is racial, ethnic or religious level. Greatest demand of all people is peace and stability. So they need to act wisely, they should not affect the weak points of individual nations and they should foster their cultural and ethical aspects.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We got an assistance from Comparative Literature professore, Marjan about how to shape our thinking and to highlight our skills by selecting this complex topic. We got an assistance from our IT professor , Sofia to deal with difficulties while making the web-page. Principal of our school had understanding of our involvement and allow us easier access to our own room where we can fully concentrate on our work. These people helped us a lot during our engagement and thanks to their support and commitment from our side, we managed to do a comprehensive project. We are gratefull to them for everything!

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

This project made us realise what our countries consist of, the administration and the management system that controls our area. We found that the Balkan Peninsula actually has noticed enough progress in all areas despite the fact that it is not homogeneous nation or civilization, but it is a mixed heterogeneous mass in the region. Despite this conclusion, however, the Balkan Peninsula has brought to a level of peace and order and so far has been successfully implemented. Managing, especially the educational system successfully functions and takes a major role in establishing a balance between the various ethnic heterogeneous societies. Seeking for information, we unanimously concluded that there are sources of literature that reliably and stably produce the facts of the readers. Overall, this project represents a great experience for us regarding its contents and authentic originality.
