Project Overview

1. Description of Our Team

That was a normal day in St. Xavier’s high all the students chattering throughout the assembly and the principal (Mrs. Pallavi Dadhe) was announcing the winners of some local computer competition and all the students were clapping for them. Miss Anushree and Master Yash still remembered their previous year in doors to diplomacy and wanted to participate in it desperately but this time with a new challenge and a new team. We searched for them in every class but could find none. Then in the next computer class we went to the lab and started our day’s assignment. According to the teams Mst. Yash sat with Mst. Zeya and Ajinkya J. and no sooner he recognized their knowledge about computers. We suddenly rushed to Manisha miss and asked for adding their names. We enjoyed so much during this comptetion that we forgot all the things and literally Manisha miss used to remind us “OH! High dignitaries did you forget that we are participating in DTD?” “Oh! Yes...” we used to sigh. And as we started this project we came to know how we are divided today and how can we make Peace, Democracy, and Unity. And we also got lucky we came to know our school is organizing peace rallies and plantation so we rushed on the spot with our cameras and clicked here and clicked there. It does not matter if we win or lose what matters is what we enjoyed. We came to know so much about our topic Thank you DTD.... Thank you!

2. Summary of Our Project

Our project teaches about Peace, Democracy and Unity.... well as we can see, we have really forgotten peace we are busy in our daily works... for example-: Before a man goes to daily work he will pick up his news paper and say “There is totally no peace in the world and the terror is increasing very fast, what will happen of this world?” and then he will go away, what will he do? Is he taking some action? No....Our website encourages Peace and Unity... It teaches about educating the poor ... It teaches how we ‘a common man’ can encourage peace, we can start promoting peace in our society by avoiding the three main devils that affect peace ‘Terrorism’, ‘Poverty’ and ‘Ignorance’. The concepts of peace is not something like not fighting with your friends or shout at your junior, nor shout or even throw books to annoy friends. It is something that makes you feel better from inside. So let us spread Peace, Unity and Democracy.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:4-6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We got many problems throughout this project and the main problem was time although our team had a good chemistry our time never matched but still we did not lost hope. Sometimes we had to miss our classes and teachers would get angry on us like anything but our Principal supported us and Manisha Miss encouraged us and we finally did it. There was a slight problem of electricity in our school’s area because of that our project delayed continuously. But my friends... every cloud has a silver lining!

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Doors to Diplomacy has taught my students to be attentive and understanding. Now they can understand the problems of others and can give them a proper solution. It also united them making the difference between girls and boys very less.

6. How did your activities and research for this Doors to Diplomacy Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our website deals with Peace and democracy it taught us what exactly is peace and democracy. We used to think that peace is a simple state of mind where we relax but it is more than that. We taught all the eighth graders in the assembly that what exactly it is... what the concept of all these things is. Peace is an international matter when we learnt that some countries are literally dying for peace we were terrified... we were confused if we can change everything so why we don’t and then we came to know all the things. Our website teaches the modern world that they are the people of the modern world their understanding should be far different from the kings of that time. We went to a village called “Chikaldhara” where we came to know what people think. They only say ‘Fight and win’ this is the problem. To make this project we used simple English added sound images so that even a fifth grader should understand the concept. We used modern thinking and tried to make the website a little funny although this is a serious matter. At last when we finished with the website , but never finished the topic when we still go to some places we teach everyone about this and encourage them to participate in Doors to diplomacy.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your Doors to Diplomacy project?

We talked to the students asked their opinions referred some e-books surfed through the net and finally got up with the idea. We used the online website maker Wix . Even we asked our relatives what they think on this topic. We also were quite successful.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your Doors to Diplomacy project both on-line and in person.

We have added some contents on unity in our project. We acted as an ambassador by various ways by asking for unity. We surveyed in various ways and as I mentioned our school also went to a peace rally where we explained the concept of peace who joined us.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We think that all the people who joined us have changed themselves and specially my friends they all changed the way of thinking.... they did not understood the points but took it the other way by fighting less! And Manisha miss have also tried to change herself but in the spot light we changed dramatically like when someone used to tease Mst. Ajinkya he would shout and beat but now he laughs and takes the matter very lightly.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

As we mentioned above in the peace rally more than hundred people volunteered even many of the teachers joined us. Besides that in our class our friends encouraged us and our parents helped us in various ways. We heartily thank them Thank you!

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

The only lesson we got is Unity, Peace and democracy are linked and if we break the link we will be lost in eerie shadows of terrorism and ignorance. Once we were very tired and we did not have any new ideas for the bibliography page Manisha miss came to us and lovingly she put her hand on our head and said “I know very well you can do it go you can....” and we made the page as soon as possible and she liked it.
