Description of Our Community: Recorded history about Kaohsiung can be traced back to Ming Dynasty. Kaohsiung had two original names; one is Takao, and the other is Takoo. Both of them had been recorded within the documents of Ming and Qing Dynasty. The word “Kaohsiung”was be adopted during Japanese occupation. Until the late Qing Dynasty, it was also developed to a trading port. Then Whistle Bow and Cihou became commercial ports. Since the retrocession of Taiwan,Kaohsiung has gradually been developing into the second biggest modern city in Taiwan. “Pier 2” means the second Dock access and is located in the third canal boat in Kaohsiung Harbor. It was a common port warehouse be built in 1973. While the Kaohsiung government was searching a place for Taiwanese National Day to display fireworks, they found the place with experimental field, The Pier-2. Because of long time unrepaired, stationed units rebuilt the old buildings, and was finished in 2002. With the artists and the local culture workers’ promote, Pier 2 combined reusing the free space of Council for Cultural Affair with project resources. And became the masterpiece of Kaohsiung community building. Managed by Kaohsiung Pier-2 development association and Shuter University of Science and Technology's local art workshop, The Pier-2 developing into experiment and creation space in south Taiwan. The Pier-2 was managed by cultural affairs Bureau of Kaohsiung government in 2006.
Project Description: The pier-2 is the biggest experimental creation field and Craft creative development center in south Taiwan . The feature of art keeps a meaning of progressive, innovative, creative and also a international art space in Kaohsiung . It’s the new bud of art and culture of Kaohsiung . The concert and the music festival hold in Love Pier is a large music festival activity in Kaohsiung, the second year and Kaohsiung movie festival was made a larger combination . Besides , the Kaohsiung artists’ cooperation offers the local artists to participate exhibition every year . Kaohsiung international art container festival is the international art exhibition of the theme with container. This project introduces the most representative art gallery in pier-2 and understands the spirit of Kaohsiung arts and culture from figures and works of art.
