Description of Our Community: Heimei is a town in northern part of Changhua County, also one of early developed places in Taiwan. According to local elders, in early days Hemei was split into east and west district by the downtown central street and its narrow gate. Every New Year celebration both district compete against each other with their own Cheguzhen crews. This activity was called Oven Cavern Lantern Festival.

Project Description: Cheguzhen is a traditional folk art on the decline, a leisure singing and dancing activity in early days. It was very popular in western coastal Taiwan as early as the reign of Kangxi Emperor. However, with the industrial and commercial development, Cheguzhen has been gradually on the decline.We want learn more about Cheguzhen from great-grandpa Shih and his Yagou community Cheguzhen. And further preserve and eventually pass down this dying but extremely significant folk art.
