Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

New Taipei City is a vibrant coastal metropolis and the very nexus of our daily lives, serving as the location for our project. Nestled along the coastline, this city has embraced a proactive role in fostering marine environmental awareness within its community through a myriad of initiatives. From impactful educational programs conducted in schools and community centers, aimed at enlightening residents about the intricacies of marine ecosystems and the imperative need for conservation, to community engagement activities such as beach clean-ups that instill a sense of collective responsibility, the city is at the forefront of promoting sustainable practices. Regulatory measures, including the enforcement of policies addressing activities potentially harmful to marine life, underscore the city's commitment to ecological preservation. Through strategic collaborations with local businesses, environmental organizations, and NGOs, New Taipei City amplifies its efforts, fostering a comprehensive approach to marine conservation.

2. Summary of Our Project

In a world where connectivity knows no bounds, our journey began when seven like-minded classmates converged in the virtual realm of the Global SchoolNet Club. The issue of ocean garbage has become a big issue, numerous animals have died because of people thowing way too much garbage into the ocean. We’ve also gone to the Bitou fishing port and visited the inventor of the Azure Fighter. Our motivation for embarking on this long and surprising environmental journey stems from a series of shared sentiments among us. As we set sail on this crucial endeavor, our mission is clear: to reclaim the seas from the grip of pollution, safeguard marine biodiversity, and inspire a global movement toward cleaner, healthier oceans. We met many challenges while doing this project, on the collaboration between members luckly we overcomed most of the challenges. Join us in this vital journey towards a sustainable future, where the waves of change ripple across the vast expanse of our precious oceans, leaving behind a legacy of environmental resilience and shared responsibility. Together, we can turn the tide and usher in an era of renewed harmony between humanity and the sea.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

For effective data processing and quick responses, I rely on a high-speed internet connection. My activities are supported by a robust computer infrastructure that guarantees quick retrieval of information and the capacity to assist with a wide range of inquiries. It's worth noting that my comments are based on prior knowledge up to January 2022, and I don't have real-time internet access to get the most up-to-date information. If you have any particular questions about my training, please ask, and I'll supply you with the most up-to-date material available as of my most recent training update.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The main problem that we met was technical difficulties as we had several problems related to the camera and filming machines. Our teacher provided us with professional video cameras for us to record the information in the interview. However, we found it difficult to manipulate the machine since it requires specialized skills and knowledge. Hence, in order to record successfully during the interview, we researched and asked for advice from teachers. The interview, as a result, ended successfully and satisfactory. Moreover, since our group members are all students, we had high academic pressure and classwork. Therefore, it is really difficult for us to arrange our time and finish the project, but we still managed to work hard and maintain our progress. In addition, as mentioned above that we are all senior high students, we had a lot of pressure in the academic field. Nevertheless, we communicated and encouraged each other to enhance our working efficiency and successfully cooperate through the project. Thus, we are able to overcome the high pressure and the limited time since we collaborated and worked together as a team.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Our team believes that by participating in the Global SchoolNet Club, we could protect the ocean in a better way, and also aim for a better experience. By attending this competition, we could also contribute to Taiwan in our best effort.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

For completing our CyberFair project, we used several information tools. In the beginning of the project, we used computers to check on different articles on the website that are relevant to cleaning the ocean. In the part where we did interviews, we used telephones for recording and filming. This helped us a lot later in understanding what the speaker was talking about. Another technology we used for filming the video was from our school. We locate our video camera in front of the interviewer, by doing so, we are able to catch what the interviewer said and it also allows us to put it on the video. The most valuable thing in our opinion was the video camera, it really helped us a lot, seeing that it could be enlarged and allows us to capture different moments during the interview.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

An 'ambassador' is a person who represents his or her country or, in this case, school. In order to accomplish this project your students probably contacted and talked to people in your community... in person, through letters and phone calls, and through email. During those contacts, students probably had to tell them about this project and some of the other things that you were doing at school.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Our project’s main objective is to discover people’s current contributions to society in prioritizing ocean protection. This time, we interviewed a small group of ocean enthusiasts who were willing to devote full-time to protecting the ocean by making a machine to clean up trash in the ocean. We implemented human practices in our community by posting ocean protection posters in the elevator and this is a meaningful action as people can realize that protecting the ocean is part of their responsibility too. We also created a Christmas tree made from plastic milk bottles to increase awareness of people in our school to see the amount of plastic produced by the students. We also created an instagram account dedicated to post environmental-related content. We will include eco-friendly practices, sustainable living tips, facts about environmental issues, success stories of conservation efforts, entrepreneurs doing environmental related projects and eco-friendly product recommendations. We started a strong community online with more people viewing our content that is friendly to the environment. We believe that more people will see our effort to protect the ocean and maybe join us in the action. We have been told to do a great job in reflecting the UN SDGs goals and helped them a lot since they are currently working on an environmental conservative project.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Cheer is one of the largest helpers in the community, and we were very honorable and thankful for her lessons and support. She was the founder of the Azure Fighter while very enthusiastic to answer any questions. She told us the motivation, structure, and goals of Azure Fighters while taking us to the machine itself, and opening the inside of the machine. Then, she also took us around the port to teach us about the flow of trash, the terrain, and how weather affects the flow of trash. Thereafter, she took us to the cafeteria, an environment-friendly restaurant supporting Azure Fighter, to accept our interview in depth into the machines, childhood, and future aims. Later, she even activated Azure Fighter, and collected trash in the port for us to take pictures and allow us to experience the most direct views. Lastly, she guided us to the beach beside the port, and we enjoyed the time picking up trash, resulting in about 20kg.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

As students deeply invested in our CyberFair project, we assumed the role of ambassadors and spokespersons for our school through a variety of communication avenues. We engaged in face-to-face interactions during visits to local businesses and schools, crafted formal letters, made phone calls, and utilized email to connect with community members. The outcomes were inspiring – from local businesses donating services to heightened community engagement and positive recognition in local media. The blend of personal commitment and effective communication strategies allowed us to convey the significance of our project and establish meaningful connections both online and within our community.
